blackberry z10 review
“Disclosure: I am participating in the Verizon Savers Voices program and have been provided with a wireless device and six months of service in exchange for my honest opinions about the product.”

PictureLast weekend I was off to Chicago with Verizon Wireless to learn all about my new ambassadorship. Before we left they gave us clues to what our new device might be – it would Predict our next move and it would help us SAVE. Later a clue was given that it would Help us share our Story… We were at a loss – would would the device be!

Then the big reveal! We were all handed a Blackberry Z10 to test for the next six months.

I’m still working on learning how to get around the Z10 but right from the get go it already has a lot of features that are really appealing.

My current phone is a Droid Razr M, I’m not going to lie – I like it a lot, and it does everything I need it to do. But instantly playing with the Z10 the screen is a lot more responsive. Everything on the Z10 is gesture based, there isn’t a home button (that is a learning experience!) and it’s a quick swipe of your hand it things instantly close or minimize.

Now one of the first clues was about predicting our move – a lot of our guesses were completely wrong! What it referred to was the “Flick” technology while typing. Not only does it start to propagate words for you it starts to learn the words you use most. As the words appear over the letters you can simple “flick” them and it types the whole word for you. Just think how fast that email or text message gets done! But that’s not all it does – it starts to remember the phrases and words you use per individual. So if you use a phrase with your mother it will auto populate those words as you start to type them – but if you don’t use them with your boyfriend those words wont come up *phew*  and vice versa.

You can also quickly delete words as you go. If you just want to delete one word you use one finger, but two fingers will delete 2 words at a time. You can delete up to 5 words quickly and easily. It makes it so much easier to fix a mess up while you’re working on an email.

The Blackberry Z10 has a lot of other great features as well. When you get the phone the apps are on three pages (or more if you add more), one of my favorite things I could do is put my apps into folders. All of my social networking apps are in folder, all of my business related and chats in others. It makes it a lot easier and quicker to find the apps I want to work with and get moving. I like having a clean screen – it’s a lot easier to get my work done.

I’m still learning a lot about the Z10 and how to add on some of the apps I use daily. But while I do that, there is one feature that stands out of all the others. The Blackberry Z10 is also a 4G LTE Hot spot. You get full 4G speed on your computer and tablet while you’re on the go. I plan on putting that to the full test this weekend on a long car ride.

So far I really like the Z10 but it has been a learning experience. There are some other really neat features I’ll tell you about soon too!

  1. The complaint with BlackBerry since iPhone and Droid came out has always centered around the selection of apps. How is the new app selection because it is about time for me to get a new phone and I miss my BlackBerry!

    • So far the apps are the only issue I have with the phone. There are apparently ways to get the apps, I just haven’t had time to try it out yet… Hoping soon!

  2. When I upgraded my phone a few months ago with TMobile I wanted to get the Z10 and the sales guy talked me out of it because of the OS difference and app difference. I ended up with the HTC One (not what the sales guy recommended). Although I am happy with my phone, I hope it lasts as long as a blackberry would have. I have had really bad luck with smart phones lasting.

  3. I like the ‘flick’ technology – saves a ton of time when typing! The user interface looks clear and easy to read. Thanks for sharing!

  4. I love the flick on this phone, although I it takes a bit of getting used to. I am used to just typing out every letter so I often forget that I am able to just flick the word up into the sentence. Makes it so much faster when I do remember!
