We’re starting to see a lot of new movie announcements for this year, and we can’t forget the streaming channels. Here are some movies to look for coming to stream on Prime Video later this year. Some dates are still unannounced, so keep an eye on those as the months go on!
Foe – Now Streaming On Prime Video
Academy Award® nominees Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal star in Foe, a haunting exploration of marriage and identity set in an uncertain world. Hen and Junior farm a secluded piece of land that has been in Junior’s family for generations, but their quiet life is thrown into turmoil when an uninvited stranger (Aaron Pierre) shows up at their door with a startling proposal. Based on best-selling author Iain Reid’s novel, directed by Garth Davis and co-written by Davis and Reid, Foe’s mesmerizing imagery and persistent questions about the nature of humanity (and artificial humanity) bring the not-too-distant future to luminous life.
Role Play – Now Streaming On Prime Video
Emma (Kayley Cuoco) and Dave (David Oyelowo) have the seemingly perfect life – two kids, a suburban house, good jobs – but after seven years of marriage, they find themselves in a bit of a rut. For their wedding anniversary this year, they are looking to spice things up with a little role-play. They plan to meet as strangers in a hotel bar, but before Dave arrives, Emma catches the eye of a mysterious older man (Bill Nighy). The mystery gentleman recognizes Emma – as an international assassin for hire with a bounty on her head. Emma leads a secret life that Dave knows nothing about. Emma’s past comes roaring back into her new life and she is forced to take action to protect the family she loves.
The Underdoggs – On Prime Video Friday, January 26th
Jaycen “Two Js” Jennings (Snoop Dogg) is a washed-up ex-professional football star who has hit rock bottom. When Jaycen is sentenced to community service coaching the Underdoggs, an unruly pee-wee football team in his hometown of Long Beach, California, he sees it as an opportunity to rebuild his public image and turn his life around. As Jaycen works to transform the foul-mouthed Underdoggs into top-notch champions, he reconnects with his past, including an old flame and a few of his ex-teammates, and rediscovers his love of the game.
Upgraded – On Prime Video Friday, February 9th
Ana (Camila Mendes) is an ambitious intern dreaming of a career in the art world while trying to impress her demanding boss Claire (Marisa Tomei). When she’s upgraded to first class on a work trip, she meets handsome Will (Archie Renaux), who mistakes Ana for her boss– a white lie that sets off a glamorous chain of events, romance and opportunity, until her fib threatens to surface.
This Is Me…Now: The Film – On Prime Video Friday, February 16th
THIS IS ME…NOW: THE FILM is like nothing you’ve ever seen from Jennifer Lopez. Releasing on the same day as her new studio album of the same name (her first in nearly a decade), the film is a narrative-driven, intimate, reflective, sexy, funny, fantastical, and highly entertaining musical and visual reimagining of her publicly scrutinized love life. Ricky Stanicky – On Prime Video Thursday, March 7th
When three childhood best friends pull a prank gone wrong, they invent the imaginary Ricky Stanicky to get them out of trouble! Twenty years after creating this ‘friend,’ Dean, JT, and Wes (Zac Efron, Andrew Santino, and Jermaine Fowler) still use the nonexistent Ricky as a handy alibi for their immature behavior. When their spouses and partners get suspicious and demand to finally meet the fabled Mr. Stanicky, the guilty trio decides to hire a washed-up actor and raunchy celebrity impersonator “Rock Hard” Rod (John Cena) to bring him to life. But when Rod takes his role of a lifetime too far, they begin to wish they’d never invented Ricky in the first place. Road House – On Prime Video Thursday, March 21st
In this adrenaline-fueled reimagining of the 80s cult classic, ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Jake Gyllenhaal) takes a job as a bouncer at a Florida Keys roadhouse, only to discover that this paradise is not all it seems.
Musica – On Prime Video Thursday, April 4th
Música follows a young man, plagued by the music in his head, who has to come to terms with an uncertain future while balancing love, family, and Brazilian culture in Newark, New Jersey. Social media pioneer Rudy Mancuso wrote and directed this romantic musical he draws influences from his personal journey.
The Idea of You – On Prime Video Thursday, May 2nd
Based on the acclaimed, contemporary love story of the same name, The Idea of You centers on Solène (Anne Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mom who begins an unexpected romance with 24-year-old Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the lead singer of August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. My Spy: The Eternal City is an upcoming American spy comedy film directed by Peter Segal. It is the sequel to the 2020 film My Spy. JJ is convinced to accompany Sophie on her school trip to Italy, where they become involved in a terrorist plot.
Space Cadet – Date TBA
Directed by Liz W. Garcia (The Lifeguard) from her own original screenplay, Space Cadet follows Florida party girl Rex (Emma Roberts), who turns out to be the only hope for the NASA space program after a fluke puts her in training with other candidates who may have better resumes but don’t have her smarts, heart, and nerve.
