Director Jay Roach brings sharp comedic instincts and a distinctly British edge to this modern portrait of a family in freefall. I WAS BORN THIS WAY | Opening exclusively in Theaters on October 30th

Surviving racism, homophobia and childhood trauma, Carl Bean found his voice through song – first as a gospel singer in Harlem’s Christian Tabernacle Choir and then later performing with his group Carl Bean and Universal Love on their 1974 album “Universal Love.”

But it was the recording of the 1977 Motown hit “I Was Born This Way” that would earn him fame; the song was celebrated as the world’s first gay anthem. Even today, club DJs have this song in heavy rotation bringing this anthem to a new LGBTQ generation world wide.

However, Bean eschewed a mainstream music career…instead choosing a vocation in activism. He started the Minority AIDS Project — serving a vital role for underserved populations of Black and Brown men and women during the AIDS Crisis. Simultaneously, he founded Unity Fellowship Church — the first LGBTQ+ ministry in LA and now boasts of churches across the nation from LA to Baltimore to Texas to New York Harlem.

I WAS BORN THIS WAY spans his life from a traumatic childhood on the streets of Baltimore to an inspired music career to the enormous and diverse church he built where everyone was embraced and loved, regardless of race, sexuality or gender identity. Archbishop Bean was ahead of his time as he practiced and preached radical love. Utilizing never before seen archival footage, rotoscope animation, and intimate interviews with family and loved ones along with Lady Gaga, Questlove, Billy Porter, and Dionne Warwick , the film becomes a moving and insightful testament to Archbishop Bean’s legacy.

I WAS BORN THIS WAY celebrates the life and legacy of the unapologetic gay Black trailblazer and his resounding message, “love is for everyone.”

I REALLY LOVE MY HUSBAND | Available on Digital and VOD November 4th

On a honeymoon in the lush islands of Bocas del Toro, Panamá, Teresa and her “golden boy” husband Drew try to settle into married life – only to find their postcard escape sharpening the edges of what’s already fragile between them. What should be effortless intimacy keeps snagging on small hesitations and unspoken irritations, and Teresa begins to see the gap between the ideal she’s projected onto Drew and the man beside her.

When they meet Paz, the charismatic expat who manages their rental, the couple’s balance shifts. Teresa is drawn in – part curiosity, part longing – and that attraction exposes what she’s been avoiding: the possibility that her desires don’t fit the story she’s been telling herself. Awkward truths tumble out in half-jokes, glances carry more weight than confessions, and the tropical setting turns ironic – a paradise that won’t let them hide. What follows is a low-boil, funny-uneasy dance among three people, where miscommunications and mixed signals peel back questions of commitment, fantasy, and who gets to define a marriage. The closer Teresa gets to naming what she wants, the more the trip becomes a reckoning with the cost of honesty.

I Really Love My Husband is both playful and piercing; offering a fresh perspective on the timeless complexities of intimacy. Trusting ambiguity over tidy answers, while letting audiences simmer in questions of desire and commitment, GG Hawkins establishes herself as a filmmaker to watch by bringing a distinctive blend of humor, sensitivity, and formal precision to the screen.

WICKED: FOR GOOD | New Featurette – in Theaters November 21st

And now whatever way our stories end, I know you have rewritten mine by being my friend …

Last year’s global cinematic cultural sensation, which became the most successful Broadway film adaptation of all time, now reaches its epic, electrifying, emotional conclusion in Wicked: For Good

Directed once again by award-winning director Jon M. Chu and starring the spectacular returning cast, led by Academy Award®nominated superstars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, the final chapter of the untold story of the witches of Oz begins with Elphaba and Glinda estranged and living with the consequences of their choices.

Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), now demonized as The Wicked Witch of the West, lives in exile, hidden within the Ozian forest while continuing her fight for the freedom of Oz’s silenced Animals and desperately trying to expose the truth she knows about The Wizard (Jeff Goldblum).

Glinda, meanwhile, has become the glamorous symbol of Goodness for all of Oz, living at the palace in Emerald City and reveling in the perks of fame and popularity. Under the instruction of Madame Morrible (Oscar® winner Michelle Yeoh), Glinda is deployed to serve as an effervescent comfort to Oz, reassuring the masses that all is well under the rule of The Wizard.

As Glinda’s stardom expands and she prepares to marry Prince Fiyero (Olivier award winner and Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey) in a spectacular Ozian wedding, she is haunted by her separation from Elphaba. She attempts to broker a conciliation between Elphaba and The Wizard, but those efforts will fail, driving Elphaba and Glinda only further apart. The aftershocks will transform Boq (Tony nominee Ethan Slater) and Fiyero forever, and threaten the safety of Elphaba’s sister, Nessarose (Marissa Bode), when a girl from Kansas comes crashing into all their lives.

As an angry mob rises against the Wicked Witch, Glinda and Elphaba will need to come together one final time. With their singular friendship now the fulcrum of their futures, they will need to truly see each other, with honesty and empathy, if they are to change themselves, and all of Oz, for good.

Wicked: For Good also stars Emmy nominee Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James as Glinda’s fawning assistants, Pfannee and ShenShen and BAFTA and Grammy nominee Sharon D. Clarke (Caroline, or Change) as the voice of Elphaba’s childhood nanny, Dulcibear.

The film is produced by returning Tony and Emmy winning powerhouse Marc Platt p.g.a. and by multiple Tony winner David Stone. The executive producers are Stephen Schwartz, David Nicksay, Jared LeBoff, Winnie Holzman and Dana Fox. The first film, Wicked, released in November 2024, earned 10 Academy Award® nominations, including Best Picture, and won the Oscars® for Costume Design and Production Design. To date, the film has grossed $750 million worldwide.

Wicked: For Good is based on the generation-defining musical stage play with music and lyrics by legendary Grammy and Oscar® winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, from the bestselling novel by Gregory Maguire. The screenplay is by Winnie Holzman and Winnie Holzman & Dana Fox. The film score is by John Powell & Stephen Schwartz, with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz.

PETER HUJAR’S DAY | Coming to Theaters This Fall

“The photographer Peter Hujar, whose images exist in an important lineage and dialogue with the work of groundbreaking gay artists such as Robert Mapplethorpe and David Wojnarowicz, forms the center of the latest movie by fearless independent American filmmaker Ira Sachs (Passages). Based on rediscovered transcripts from an unused 1974 interview by nonfiction writer Linda Rosenkrantz (played by Rebecca Hall), in which she asked Hujar (Ben Whishaw) to narrate the events of the previous day in minute detail, Sachs’s film is a mesmerizing time warp, an illustration of the life of the creative mind, the quotidian and the imaginative at once, fully and lovingly inhabited by its two brilliant actors. With this engrossing and wholly unexpected film, Sachs shuttles us back to a specific moment in New York queer cultural history and a still-influential art scene that lives on in words as much as images.” – New York Film Festival

INDUSTRY NEWS AND UPDATES

MGM+ GREENLIGHTS BOSCH: START OF WATCH

MGM+ announced the greenlight of Bosch: Start of Watch, a prequel series that will explore the origin story of Michael Connelly’s legendary detective Harry Bosch. The series stars Cameron Monaghan (ShamelessGotham) as rookie cop Harry Bosch and Omari Hardwick (Star Trek: Section 31Army of the Dead) as veteran officer Eli Bridges. The series will be available on MGM+ in the U.S., UK, Italy, Germany, Spain, Latin America, Belgium, and the Netherlands.

Based on Michael Connelly’s best-selling book series that also spawned Prime Video’s hit franchise, Bosch: Start of Watch takes viewers back to 1991 Los Angeles, following 26-year-old Harry Bosch during his earliest days as a rookie cop. The series will explore a city on the edge, teeming with racial tension, gang violence, and a fractured LAPD. Amid routine calls and growing unrest, Bosch finds himself drawn into a high-profile heist and a web of criminal corruption that will test his loyalty to the badge and shape his future as the detective who lives by the code, “Everybody counts or nobody counts.”

The series is produced by Fabel Entertainment. The series is co-created and executive produced by Tom Bernardo and Brian Anthony, with Bernardo serving as showrunner. Michael Connelly, Henrik Bastin, Jamie Boscardin Martin, and Jasmine Russ also serve as executive producers. Theresa Snider serves as co-executive producer for Hieronymus Pictures.

“We are thrilled to expand the Bosch universe with this compelling origin story that showcases how one of television’s most beloved detectives became the man we know today,” said Michael Wright, head of MGM+. “With Cameron Monaghan and Omari Hardwick bringing these complex characters to life, and the creative vision of Michael Connelly and our talented executive producers, Bosch: Start of Watch promises to deliver the gritty, authentic storytelling that honors the franchise’s legacy while opening an exciting new chapter.”

“I’m deeply grateful to Michael Wright and the team at MGM+ for championing this next chapter in Bosch’s journey with such remarkable care and integrity,” said Connelly. “Being able to see how Harry Bosch became the man we have loved for 10 seasons is a gift to me and his many fans. I can’t wait to dig in with Cameron and the writers to explore this uncharted character territory.”

“It’s a terrific privilege to be able to explore both the origins of this iconic character and the Los Angeles that formed him in the early 1990s,” said Bernardo. “In telling the story of a young Harry Bosch, we want to honor the faith of Michael Connelly’s legion of readers and the amazing audience that tuned into Bosch and Bosch: Legacy over the years. We’re excited to embark on this journey.”

“To get the opportunity to produce this show and shoot it on the streets of Los Angeles is a rare privilege these days,” said Bastin. “By filming in LA, we’ll be able to tap into the best creative talent this industry has to offer – and in doing so deliver a story about Harry Bosch that fans have longed for. Thanks to MGM+ for giving us the resources to make it happen, and to the California Tax Credit for bringing business back to LA!”

Bosch: Start of Watch represents MGM+’s dedication to creating television for movie lovers – classic Hollywood storytelling for a modern audience.
