SETH ROGEN JOINS AZIZ ANSARI’S FEATURE DIRECTORIAL DEBUT “BEING MORTAL” FOR SEARCHLIGHT PICTURES

Searchlight Pictures announced today that Seth Rogen (This Is the EndSuperbad, Pineapple Express) has joined the cast of Aziz Ansari’s feature directorial debut Being Mortal. The film stars Academy Award® Nominee Bill Murray (The French Dispatch, Lost in Translation) along with Ansari (“Master of None”), who also wrote the script and is producing with Youree Henley.  Taylor Friedman and Cameron Chidsey are overseeing for Searchlight Pictures.  

The film is based on Atul Gawande’s non-fiction book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End. Principal photography will start this April, with Searchlight Pictures set to release the film theatrically in 2023.

Rogen can currently be seen in Hulu’s highly acclaimed “Pam & Tommy” starring Lily James and Sebastian Stan. He recently starred in HBO Max’s An American Pickle and in Long Shot alongside Charlize Theron for Lionsgate.  Rogen was nominated for two Primetime Emmy awards forOutstanding Drama Series for Amazon Prime’s “The Boys” and for Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music or Comedy Program for “Da Ali G Show”.  He will next be seen in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans alongside Michelle Williams for Universal Pictures.

Searchlight Pictures recently set release dates for upcoming titles including Andrew Ahn’s Fire Island, set for June 3rd; Sophie Hyde’s Good Luck to you, Leo Grande for June 17th; and Quinn Shephard’s Not Okay for August 5th; all of which will stream exclusively on Hulu.   Searchlight also recently dated Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin for a limited theatrical release on October 21st.

When We Were Bullies – HBO and HBO Max March 30th

WHEN WE WERE BULLIES begins with a mind boggling coincidence from 25 years ago, which ultimately leads filmmaker Jay Rosenblatt to track down his fifth grade class to see what they remember from a bullying incident that occurred 50 years ago. Weaving together a collage of archival material, found footage, stop-motion animation and interviews with classmates and a teacher from the time, the film is a highly personal look back at a Brooklyn schoolyard incident that had been obscured by the elusive nature of memory but had resonated for decades. In a playful yet poignant reflection, Rosenblatt begins to understand his complicity, his sense of shame and the shared nature of such incidents and their aftermath.

NEWEST PROGRAM FROM KEN BURNS  “BENJAMIN FRANKLIN,” ARRIVING ON THE PBS DOCUMENTARIES PRIME VIDEO CHANNEL APRIL 4

This April, a new two-part documentary directed by Ken Burns, “Benjamin Franklin” will launch on the PBS Documentaries Prime Video ChannelThe program explores the life and work of one of the most consequential figures in American history—a prolific writer and publisher, a groundbreaking scientist and inventor, a world-renowned diplomat and a signer of both the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution. This dramatic re-creation of Franklin’s mind and world is scripted exclusively with Franklin’s own words, preserved from letters and diaries, bringing to life intimate conversations with the viewer.

In addition to Emmy®-Award winning Mandy Patinkin providing the voice of Franklin, “Benjamin Franklin” includes interviews with some of the country’s leading scholars of early American history, including Franklin biographer Walter Isaacson, who also served as a senior advisor to the project. Franklin, whose life has been celebrated as a quintessential American story, was anything but typical. His 84 years spanned nearly the entirety of the 18th century—an epoch of revolutionary change in science, technology, literature, politics and government—change that Franklin himself helped to advance. He launched the first public library in America, organized a volunteer fire company, and founded an academy that eventually became the University of Pennsylvania. Apple Unveils Trailer For Star-Studded Anthology Series “Roar” Ahead Of April 15 Debut On Apple TV+ 

Apple TV+ today released the trailer for “Roar,” the highly anticipated darkly comedic anthology series set to  debut  globally with all eight-episodes on Friday, April 15 exclusively on Apple TV+. Based on a book of short stories by Cecelia Ahern, the series is the first to be released under “Roar” creators and co-showrunners Carly Mensch and Liz Flahive’s (“GLOW”) overall deal with Apple TV+.   

The gripping trailer highlights the award-winning cast of actors that star across the eight distinct stories, including Academy, Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner Nicole Kidman (“Being the Ricardos”), who also executive produces; Emmy, Grammy and Tony Award winner Cynthia Erivo (“Harriet”); six-time Emmy Award-nominee Issa Rae (“Insecure”); Emmy Award winner Merritt Wever (“Unbelievable”); SAG Award nominee Alison Brie (“Happiest Season,” GLOW); three-time Emmy Award-nominee Betty Gilpin (“GLOW,” “The Tomorrow War”); Meera Syal (“Yesterday”), Fivel Stewart (“Atypical”) and Kara Hayward (“Us”). 

Roar” is an anthology series of darkly comic feminist fables. THE TALE OF KING CRAB – Italian Drama from Oscilloscope – Opens NY April 15; LA April 29

Luciano (Gabriele Silli) is a wandering outcast in a remote, late 19th-century Italian village. His life becomes undone by alcohol, forbidden love, and a bitter conflict with the prince of the region over the right of passage through an ancient gateway. When the quarrel escalates, Luciano is exiled to the distant Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego where, with the help of ruthless gold-diggers, he searches for a mythical treasure, paving his way toward redemption. However, in these barren lands, only greed and insanity can prevail. 

The Secrets of Dumbledore – New IMAX Art – In Theaters April 15th

Professor Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Mads Mikkelsen) is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers. But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?

The film features an ensemble cast, including Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything”), two-time Oscar nominee Jude Law (“Cold Mountain,” “The Talented Mr. Ripley”), Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, William Nadylam, Callum Turner, Jessica Williams, Victoria Yeates, Poppy Corby-Tuech, Fiona Glascott, Katherine Waterston, Maria Fernanda Cândido, Richard Coyle, Oliver Masucci, Valerie Pachner, and Mads Mikkelsen.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” was directed by David Yates, from a screenplay by J.K. Rowling & Steve Kloves, based upon a screenplay by J.K. Rowling. The film was produced by David Heyman, J.K. Rowling, Steve Kloves, Lionel Wigram and Tim Lewis. Neil Blair, Danny Cohen, Josh Berger, Courtenay Valenti and Michael Sharp served as executive producers.

The music is by nine-time Oscar nominee James Newton Howard (“News of the World,” “Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald,” “Defiance,” “Michael Clayton,” “The Hunger Games” films).

Warner Bros. Pictures presents a Heyday Films Production, a David Yates film, “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” in theaters internationally beginning 7 April 2022 and in North America on April 15, 2022. The film will be distributed worldwide in select theatres and IMAX by Warner Bros. Pictures.

THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT New Poster – In Theaters April 22nd

Lionsgate has debuted the final poster for the upcoming action-comedy THE UNBEARABLE WEIGHT OF MASSIVE TALENT, exactly one month out from the film’s release. The art features Nicolas CagePedro PascalIke BarinholtzNeil Patrick Harris, and Tiffany Haddish.

The piece was painted by legendary poster artist Steve Chorney (http://www.stevenchorney.com/), who has illustrated artwork for some of the biggest and most iconic films & franchises over the last 40 years, including James BondIndiana JonesWho Framed Roger RabbitLabrynth, and more.  It was inspired by key art from movies such as Big Trouble in Little ChinaCannonball Run, and more recently, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

Only Murders in the Building – Season 2 – June 28th

Following the shocking death of Arconia Board President Bunny Folger, Charles, Oliver & Mabel race to unmask her killer. However, three (unfortunate) complications ensue – the trio is publicly implicated in Bunny’s homicide, they are now the subjects of a competing podcast, and they have to deal with a bunch of New York neighbors who all think they committed murder.

WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING -Poster, Pictures and Trailer – In Theaters July

From the best-selling novel comes a captivating mystery. Where the Crawdads Sing tells the story of Kya, an abandoned girl who raised herself to adulthood in the dangerous marshlands of North Carolina. For years, rumors of the “Marsh Girl” haunted Barkley Cove, isolating the sharp and resilient Kya from her community. Drawn to two young men from town, Kya opens herself to a new and startling world; but when one of them is found dead, she is immediately cast by the community as the main suspect. As the case unfolds, the verdict as to what actually happened becomes increasingly unclear, threatening to reveal the many secrets that lay within the marsh.

Where the Crawdads Sing stars Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) as “Kya Clark,” Taylor John Smith (Sharp Objects) as “Tate Walker,” Harris Dickinson (The King’s Man) as “Chase Andrews,” Michael Hyatt (Snowfall) as “Mabel,” Sterling Macer, Jr. (Double Down) as “Jumpin’,” and David Strathairn (Nomadland) as “Tom Milton.” Olivia Newman (First Match) directs the screenplay by Lucy Alibar (Beasts of the Southern Wild) based upon the novel by Delia Owens. The 3000 Pictures film is being produced by Reese Witherspoon and Lauren Neustadter.
