LAST TAKE: RUST AND THE STORY OF HALYNA | Premiering on Hulu on March 11th

On October 21, 2021, on the set of the movie RUST, a prop gun held by actor Alec Baldwin fired a live bullet, wounding the film’s director and killing its cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins. Within hours, the catastrophic accident was enveloped by a frenzy of media attention. For months, then years, as lawsuits flew and criminal trials unfolded, the tabloid spectacle around the case overshadowed a private, personal tragedy.

In “Last Take: Rust and the Story of Halyna,” Halyna’s friend, director Rachel Mason, goes beyond the public narrative to reveal the untold human story of that terrible day and all that followed — from the vantage point of the people at the center of the tragedy. The film weaves together the accounts of those who were on the set of RUST that day and of those, like Mason, who not only lost a cherished friend and colleague but who are still navigating the trauma of the aftermath.

Working with public court records, behind-the-scenes material from RUST, and unprecedented access to key individuals and materials, including Halyna’s personal archives, the film examines the official investigations into the safety protocols on set and explores the private moral reckoning of all involved. It probes for answers to the questions those closest to Halyna all carry. How could this have happened?  And how do we possibly make sense of it?

Rigorously reported, emotionally raw, and deeply personal, the film seeks to redeem the core of the story that the media exploited — that of a talented cinematographer whose life story was minimized, yet in death gave her colleagues an unexpected opportunity to heal from unimaginable loss by completing the film that mattered deeply to her.

AN UNFINISHED FILM | Premieres in Theaters on March 14th

While the COVID pandemic may be behind us, filmmakers are still working to make sense of our collective trauma. From Chinese director Lou Ye (Suzhou River, Summer Palace), comes the poignant and powerful AN UNFINISHED FILM, which had its World Premiere at Cannes this year, blending fiction with real footage for a hybrid docudrama recalling the early days of the Chinese lockdown.

Set in January 2020, AN UNFINISHED FILM follows director Xiaorui who convinces his cast and crew to resume the shooting of a film abandoned ten years earlier. With the shoot almost complete, rumors regarding an illness begin to circulate. Some of the cast and crew manage to leave before the hotel is locked down by security guards, everyone left on set is confined to their hotel rooms, and the director must decide whether to halt the filming once again as Wuhan is locked down in the early days of a terrifying pandemic. Relevant and moving, deeply personal yet universally resonant, AN UNFINISHED FILM is a haunting but ultimately life-affirming chronicle of the early days of lockdown, revisiting footage from the past and bringing order — through intelligent, unconventional filmmaking — to the flood of memories and mobile-phone images that overwhelmed us during the COVID years.

Acclaimed director Ye, previously in Competition at Cannes with Purple Butterfly (2003), Summer Palace (2006) and Spring Fever (2009) which captured the best script prize, is one of China’s most controversial filmmakers who has previously received numerous bans from the Chinese government for producing dramas like Summer Palace and Suzhou River without official approval. Yet he remains one of China’s most talented and exciting auteurs.

CAREME | Premiering globally on Apple TV+ April 30th

Apple TV+ shared a first-look at “Carême,” the upcoming French-language drama starring César Award winner Benjamin Voisin (“Lost Illusions,” “Summer of 85”), César Award nominee Jérémie Renier (“My Way,” “Saint Laurent”), César Award winner Lyna Khoudri (“Papicha,” “November”) and Alice Da Luz (“Hanami,” “And The Party Goes On”). The series is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Martin Bourboulon (“Les Trois Mousquetaires: D’Artagnan,” “Eiffel”). “Carême” will make its global debut on Apple TV+ on April 30, 2025, with the first two episodes, followed by one episode weekly, every Wednesday through June 11, 2025.

“Carême,” follows the thrilling story of the world’s first celebrity chef, Antonin Carême (Voisin), who rose from humble beginnings in Paris to the height of culinary stardom in Napoleon’s Europe. While he dreams only of becoming the most famous chef in the world, his talent and ambitions attract the attention of renowned and powerful politicians, who use him as a spy for France. Determined to escape poverty and fulfill his dream, Carême can choose revenge or he can have it all — women, wealth, fame — but at what cost? His love? His soul? His life?

Inspired by the book “Cooking for Kings: The Life of Antonin Carême, The First Celebrity Chef,” by multi-award-winning historian and actor Ian Kelly (“The King’s Man”), “Carême” is created by Kelly and Davide Serino (“The Bad Guy,” “M. Son of the Century,” “Esterno Notte”). “Carême” is executive produced by Vanessa van Zuylen with VVZ Production and Dominique Farrugia with Banijay’s Shine Fiction for Apple TV+. The series was shot on location in and around Paris.

THE HAUNTING OF HOLLYWOOD | TVOD release on May 6TH

Mometu, in collaboration with Entertainment Squad’s genre label The Horror Collective, proudly announces the acquisition of The Haunting of Hollywood, a gripping psychological thriller marking the debut of rising European filmmaker Lilia Doytchinova. The film will make its exclusive streaming premiere on Mometu on February 7, 2025, followed by a TVOD release on May 6, 2025.

With a powerhouse cast led by William Mann (Zombie Strain), Tiffany Downey (Cherokee Studios; The Heavy), Stefanie Infante (Backlog), Joseph Lopez (Blood Star), Astrid Morberg (Cryptid) and David Lami Friebe (Sistas; All American), The Haunting of Hollywood blends supernatural horror, mystery, and drama into a gripping tale. Inspired by the tragic real-life story of Peg Entwistle—who jumped from the Hollywood sign in 1932—the film explores the pressures of fame, unresolved trauma, and mental health in the entertainment industry.

“Hollywood has always been synonymous with dreams, but this story reveals the shadows beneath the spotlight,” said Shaked Berenson, CEO of Entertainment Squad. “The film is an unflinching look at mental health, relationships, and ambition in a city where the line between dreams and nightmares blurs. With a brilliant cast and crew, this is a story we’re thrilled to share.”

Bryan Louzil, VP of Business Development at Mometu, stated: “This isn’t just a ghost story—it’s a moving narrative about mental health and perseverance. The Haunting of Hollywood speaks directly to the challenges many face in pursuit of their dreams, making it a perfect addition to Mometu’s lineup of compelling, thought-provoking content.”

Director Lilia Doytchinova commented: “This story reflects my own experiences and those of many artists, including my incredible cast and crew—and, of course, Peg. I had the privilege of working with remarkable actors like Tiffany Downey and William Mann, who helped shape the troubled characters of Olivia and James, whose toxic relationship serves as the core of the story. I wanted to create a love letter to Los Angeles while acknowledging its darkest truths. I hope audiences will reflect on the strength it takes to confront the past and the complexities of ambition in a city bound by illusions and their impact on mental health.”

Set against iconic Hollywood landmarks, the story follows James (Mann), a young filmmaker grappling with his mother’s tragic past, and Skyler (Infante), his aspiring actress girlfriend. Together with their friend Casey (Friebe), the trio are drawn into a haunting tale of family secrets and ghostly memories, blurring the line between reality and illusion in their perilous pursuit of stardom.

The Haunting of Hollywood has already earned multiple accolades, including two-time Best Thriller winner at the Golden State Film Festival and the Silicon Beach Film Festival, Best First Time Feature Director at Halicarnassus Film Festival and Most Terrifying at the Top Indie Film Awards, and features an evocative score by Snowfx, nominated for Best Music.

The Haunting of Hollywood will be available to watch exclusively on www.mometu.com from February 7.

M3GAN 2.0 | IN THEATERS JUNE 27th

The murderous doll who captivated pop culture in 2023 is back. And this time she’s not alone.

The original creative team behind that phenomenon—led by horror titans James Wan for Atomic Monster, Jason Blum for Blumhouse and director Gerard Johnstone—reboot an all-new wild chapter in A.I. mayhem with M3GAN 2.0

Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GAN’s creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemma’s niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemma’s overprotective rules.

Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; AhsokaPacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelia’s self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.

With the future of human existence on the line, Gemma realizes that the only option is to resurrect M3GAN (Amie Donald, voiced by Jenna Davis) and give her a few upgrades, making her faster, stronger, and more lethal. As their paths collide, the original A.I bitch is about to meet her match.

Directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Gerard Johnstone, the film co-stars returning cast members Brian Jordan Alvarez and Jen Van Epps as Gemma’s loyal tech teammates, Cole and Tess, and new characters played by Aristotle Athari (Saturday Night LiveHacks), Timm Sharp (Apples Never FallPercy Jackson and the Olympians) and Grammy winner and 11-time Emmy nominee Jemaine Clement (Avatar: The Way of WaterWhat We Do in the Shadows).

Produced by James Wan, Jason Blum and Allison Williams, the film is executive produced by Gerard Johnstone, Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath,Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Mark D. Katchur.

The first M3GAN film shattered box office records, opening to $30.4 million domestically to become the biggest opening weekend for a PG-13 horror film since A Quiet Place Part II. The film went on to gross more than $180 million worldwide.

JURASSIC WORLD REBIRTH | New Trailer – In Theaters July 2nd

A new era is born. This summer, three years after the Jurassic World trilogy concluded with each film surpassing $1 billion at the global box office, the enduring Jurassic series evolves in an ingenious new direction with Jurassic World Rebirth.

Anchored by iconic action superstar Scarlett Johansson, Emmy and SAG nominee Jonathan Bailey and two-time Oscar® winner Mahershala Ali, this action-packed new chapter sees an extraction team race to the most dangerous place on Earth, an island research facility for the original Jurassic Park, inhabited by the worst of the worst that were left behind.

The three most colossal creatures across land, sea and air within that tropical biosphere hold, in their DNA, the key to a drug that will bring miraculous life-saving benefits to humankind.

When Zora’s operation intersects with a civilian family whose boating expedition was capsized by marauding aquatic dinos, they all find themselves stranded on a forbidden island that had once housed an undisclosed research facility for Jurassic Park. There, in a terrain populated by dinosaurs of vastly different species, they come face-to-face with a sinister, shocking discovery that has been hidden from the world for decades.

Ali is Duncan Kincaid, Zora’s most trusted team member; Critics Choice and Olivier Award winner Jonathan Bailey (WickedBridgerton) plays paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis; Emmy nominee Rupert Friend (HomelandObi-Wan Kenobi) appears as Big Pharma representative Martin Krebs and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo (The Lincoln LawyerMurder on the Orient Express) plays Reuben Delgado, the father of the shipwrecked civilian family.
