Ways to Live on a Tight Budget

Many people are having to make do with small budgets nowadays. The good news is that you can get your money to go very far if you know what to do.

Save money on food

A lot of people spend a great deal of money on food, but there are many ways to save. First, you can try to cook more than eat out. You often spent a lot of money on eating out and can often cook for far less. Even when you go to a cheap restaurant, you will need to think about adding extras such as drinks and tip.

If you do need to go out, then look for less expensive restaurants. Also many restaurants have special deals such as early birds. A lot of restaurants such as T.G.I. Friday’s and Sonny’s have kids eat free on certain days. If you have a family, you can often save a lot by taking advantage of that offer.

You can also take measures to save money if you eat at home. First you can buy less expensive meals. Save the expensive steak and lobster dinners for special occasions and instead choose cheaper fare. Also, shop at less expensive grocery stores. Use coupons. Store brands can often save you money and taste exactly the same. Also, sometimes you can buy in bulk and save money.

Save money on activities

Instead of going to the extremely pricey concert, go to a free music festival at your local community park. In many places there are free events going on all the time – take advantage of those. Also, there are other things that are very inexpensive such as parks. You can also try to come up with your own cheap things to do such as inviting friends over for a game night instead of spending the money to go out. Also, if you do go out to the movies, do not spend a ton of money on popcorn and soda.

Save money on general purchases

Before you purchase each item, decide if you really need it. Also, shop at stores that are cheaper like Costco and Target. If you are not good at avoiding making purchases, then try to avoid shopping opportunities altogether. Buy on sale and clearance.

Make sure that you make a budget and stick with it. Use that and the above tips to help you survive with just a small amount of money.
