Traveling With Kids? Gear Up & Get Ready

Have you ever seen someone try to corral a herd of wild goats into a pen? They run everywhere, they shout, the eat everything in sight and they don’t listen when you try to guide them. By the end of it, the herder is stressed, exhausted and is close to turning the farm around and going home. Well, this is the picture that is often painted when people discuss travelling with children. Unfortunately, travelling with kids in the back isn’t as easy as travelling just the two of you anymore; it’s less carefree road trip and more military operation and leaving early to factor in the multiple toilet trips that you’re going to have to stop for.

The good news is that as long as you’ve hired a big car, like the Fiat Tipo, you can make your trip as comfortable as you can. So, when it comes to the holiday ahead, are you going to make it one that you are prepared for, or are you going to dive in with both feet and hope that you make it out at the other end alive?

Take Your Time.

Rushing this trip, from the preparation to the actual leaving for vacation, is a mistake. You need to spend time planning what you want to pack, packing the car, planning a route with stops and motels and the time that you take on this trip is the best thing that you can bring with you. Children are inquisitive, so when they spot an airport or a train station they want to slow down and have a look. Give yourself that time for stops and don’t plan any deadlines.

Advance Booking.

You’re planning your stops and your excursions, and the last thing that you need is to stop and fumble for money for tickets wherever you go. Book motels, travel tickets and excursion tickets as early as possible. Not only will you be able to get the best discounts possible, you can put everything into a file in the order that you will need it for easy access on the way. This will reduce stress massively!

Equip The Kids.

Bored kids and long journeys are a recipe for disaster and if you want to have your journey be a happy one, you need to arm your children with a camera and snacks. Cameras don’t have to be expensive; those cheap disposables in a bundle can be brilliant for kids to keep up with the scenery. Not only that, you’ll get some awesome candid photographs among the accidental ‘finger covering the lens’ photos that are an inevitability.

Pack For Weather.

Ponchos, umbrellas, gloves, scarves, jumpers, shorts, sunglasses and sunscreen – all of these can cater for extreme weather and you need to ensure that you plan for it. The weather can change so fast and you have to be prepared for it.

Road trip and children can be a bad combination, but if you’re prepared, planned and ready, you can make it the trip of a lifetime.
