A Christmas Story House and Filming Locations

It’s that time of year that A Christmas Story is going to be playing on channels 24 hours a day. The, now classic, Christmas movie follows Ralphie a young boy in the ’50s who wants nothing more than a Red Rider BB gun for his present and the days leading up to Christmas. From that mall Santa, the pink bunny suit, and of course that iconic leg lamp – it’s got all of the parts that make us laugh each year.

This fan-favorite movie is one that people can watch over and over again – but did you know you can actually visit the house and neighborhood it was (mostly) filmed in? The Christmas Story House is actually located and restored to what it was during the movie and is a fun place to tour during the holidays and even year-round. As an added bonus, the house is also now a Bed and Breakfast so you can enjoy any time and is a great way to surprise major fans of the show.

So, where can you find the house from A Christmas Story? It’s in a quiet neighborhood in Cleveland, Ohio. Although the tourist traffic around the holiday season probably makes it a bit busier than neighbors may want. It is a five-minute drive off the highway and a fun quick visit.

Not only can you tour the house from the movie, but the neighboring house is open (at select times), there is a large gift shop that has a ton of movie holiday goodness as well some of the classic cars from the movie and you can snag a discount at the restaurant from the movie. It may be a quick stop and tour, but they’re making sure you stay in the area and get your money’s worth!

The reality is, the house from a Christmas Story might be one of the easiest film locations for you to visit in the Midwest. There are some others we love as well, and this one is happy to embrace the fandom and turn it into a tourist trap. Is it worth driving a bit to Cleveland (if you’re near enough to)? Absolutely, it’s something that you can make a tradition or explore this little step back in time and into your favorite holiday movie.

And yes, at the holidays they offer large inflatables of both Ralphie as a bunny and the leg lamp so you definitely won’t want to miss that photo opportunity. Have you always wanted your own leg lamp? Be sure to grab one from the shop before you drive home.
