The weather has been temperamental in Michigan lately. From hot days, strong storms and now a cold front that makes it feel like Fall. But let’s not give up on Summer just yet – we still have several weeks that it’s perfect to fire up your grill and spend some great times outside with your family.Once most of our boxes are unpacked (well the ones on the main floor that is), we invited our families over to enjoy our new home with us as well as some good food. Oriental Trading sent me a box full of barbecue themed party supplies during our party, and with a bright sunny day – they were the perfect tools for our get-together.
At our last place we weren’t able to entertain very often, due to the neighbors but the house and yard didn’t make it easy to have people over. But our new home is more open. Our back patio is actually 800 square feet, so there is plenty of space for people, food, grills and more. With the grill heated up the burgers, turkey dogs and hot dogs were ready to be cooked. Inside were toppings, salads, snacks and desserts that the guests had brought to share.
All of the goodies were to be served on the adorable BBQ plates that Oriental Trading company sent with matching napkins. But the whole stage could be set with a basket utensil and napkin organizer (you can use it with condiments as well), ants to help weigh down the table cloth (they wont run off with your food either!), a party serving tray, banners and even rubber duckies that were shaped like bugs. I had requested the large glass drink dispenser as well, that looks similar to a larger mason jar. Unfortunately the seal wasn’t very strong and some tea was lost, but it’s something I think I can fix easily and hope to be able to update this post with.
Our guests loved the theme of the party and all of the accessories. The only note would be the plates could be a little bigger! With everyone bring a dish to pass, we had to have two plates each to fit all of the delicious food.
We have some of our plates left over, and we’re going to take advantage of some of the cooler fall weather and have a few more grill outs. After all, if the grill is up to 450 degrees -when isn’t a good time to have a back yard barbecue? Don’t forget to grab some great accessories for your next grill out with you friends and family! And don’t forget your bugs – they are the kind that everyone will like!
