With TV’s shows such as ‘Long Way Round’ and ‘Long Way Down, which starred Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman, the possibilities of enjoyable long motorcycle rides has become more apparent, and consequently their popularity has increased drastically.
You will always find roads with bend and hills that will make your riding more fun, but there are some places that are just perfect for all motorcycle riders.
Before you set out, make sure your motorcycle is in good condition and that you have everything on you that you are likely to need. Pyrenees Loop, France and Spain
This 1,500-mile ride of stunning scenery and bends is a favorite with many European bike riders. Starting from Bilbao in Spain you head east into the Pyrenees. Then you turn north to Andorra and back into Spain reaching Ripoli. On the way, you will pass the Dali museum and ride along the Mediterranean coast to France. There are mountain passes to ride through with bends and long straights all the way.
Pacific Coast Highway, California
At just 200 miles long this is a one-day trip for the intrepid traveler. When you ride from San Luis Obispo to San Francisco, for much of the journey, you will not see any civilization. You will see glorious beaches strewn with seals, redwood forests, plunging cliffs and huge surfs. You will also pass through the town of Monterey, which is the surfing capital of Santa Cruz.
Dales And Moors, Yorkshire, England
This 270-mile road from Kendal to Whitby will take you across the wilderness that is the Yorkshire Moors. Along the way, you will experience fast bends and straights and scenery wilder than you will see in most other places. You will pass through several small towns on your way, and when you reach Whitby, you will find a peaceful fishing village where you will be able to enjoy traditional English fish and chips.
Fjordland, Norway
This 280-mile journey through Viking land is an experience that you will never forget. The road has switchbacks and fjords that provide some great riding. Start at Bergen and head for Gudvangern to get the ferry across the world’s deepest fjord. Then climb over Gaularfjell to Moskog and carry onto Eidsdal where the ferry will drop you at the Trollstigen road for you to continue your trip to Andalsness.
These are just a sample of some of the best riding roads in the world. There are others in places such as Cuba, South Africa, the American West, Australia, Turkey, and Morocco and they will all be a motorcycling experience never to be forgotten.
