The pre-owned vehicle market is something that continues to inspire us in 2025. It’s where you can go to pick up a bargain and, at the same time, really get the vehicle you want.

But which brands are at the top of this list? Which car companies make the most sense for people looking for someone pre-owned but that will also stand the test of time going forward?

Toyota

No surprises here: Toyota remains right at the top of the list of options. This auto-maker is special in so many ways, but it’s the long-term viability and reliability of its vehicles that makes such a difference. People know that once they’ve bought a Toyota, they probably won’t have to purchase another vehicle for a long time.

Top models include options like the NX, which is the SUV, and the RX, which is a little smaller. JD Power highly rates these vehicles pre-owned, along with many others from the company.

Honda

Honda occupies a similar space as Toyota. Again, it’s a highly reliable Japanese car company with preowned options that could save you a lot of money.

The thing that makes Honda special, though, is the efficient power train. The company is well known for creating some of the best engines and powertrains in the market, many of which continue functioning for decades. It’s not uncommon to see Honda vehicles blast through the 200,000-mile mark with relatively few serious issues, if any at all.

For people looking for prestige and status from a second-hand vehicle, a certified pre-owned BMW could be the way forward. While these can be slightly more expensive to run long-term, they offer all sorts of benefits, including just feeling and looking great on the road.

BMW vehicles going back 20 years are high-quality and reliable. The company improved a lot after 2000, following complaints that some of its cars were rust buckets. But it also simply had to compete with more reliable Japanese car brands, finding a way to make its vehicles stand out.

Another Japanese automaker, this time Mazda, is a great option for pre-owned vehicles. What’s nice about this car company is the upscale interiors it’s been using for years. It’s a good option for anyone wanting to feel a sense of luxury but without the price tag of buying something completely new.

The CX-5 is probably the most popular pre-owned Mazda vehicle. People really like this SUV. However, the Mazda3 is also an option for those looking for a city run-around. The auto maker isn’t quite as reliable as Toyota, but it is pretty close.

Acura

Finally, if you’re looking for something sporty and you want Honda’s reliability, then Acura could be a good option. It makes upscale vehicles with refined cabins, but always sells at a massive discount on the second-hand market.

The best-known model is probably the RDX compact SUV. It’s a good runaround for families wanting a little extra room. Then, there’s the MDX, which is a medium-sized sedan.
