If you live in Michigan, you’ve grown up with Vernors and the gingery soda that everyone’s parents swear is a cure all if you’re sick. This year, Hudsonville Ice Cream launched a contest to find the flavor of Detroit and one that Michiganders would love. Their current line up feature flavors from throughout the state of Michigan including ones like Mackinaw Island Fudge, Grand Hotel Summer Celebration and other delicious flavors – and the new Detroit flavor fits perfect in the Michigan pride.
Tonight at Rock City Eatery downtown Detroit to announce the winner of the Flavor of Detroit Competition, besides making the winning flavor, the winner also got a year supply of Hudsonville Ice Cream and a prize of $500. The winning flavor not only showcase something from Detroit, but a flavor that people could enjoy and always think of the city. Nothing says this better than the flavor of Vernors and that’s exactly the main element in the winning flavor combination.
Coming this fall to shelves near you is an all new flavor – The Come Back Cooler. This creamy custard like ice cream is made using Michigan dairy products and swirled with ripples of a ginger ale inspired sauce. The balance is perfect between the ice cream and spicy ginger is reminiscent of the old Boston Cooler drinks you could get at Kerns downtown Detroit. It will transport you back to the hot summer days of the past, and it will help cool you down. Fans of the favorite Michigan soda will love this new concoction.
