Tiki Bars seem to be a thing of the past. One of those things that you only see in old movies, or when you’re traveling to destinations. But in the Corktown area of Detroit, there is a bar taking things of the past and making them new again. Mutiny Bar is bringing back the old Tiki Bar and doing so with style with their signature drinks and a fun interior.
When you’re going down Vernor you may miss Mutiny Bar if you blink and don’t know what you’re looking for, but look for the sword above the door so you can find one of the best hidden secrets in town. The Mutiny Bar opened last year, the small space is quickly becoming one a local favorite.
On our visit to Mutiny Bar we were given a tutorial on how to make Mai Tais and were able to sample some of their custom Tiki drinks. Each drink served in a Tiki glass, and quite a few of the cocktails come to you already on fire to help release the oils and flavors from some of the additions.
The interior of Mutiny Bar is cozy, with umbrellas and lights from the ceiling, tiki masks on the wall and rattan woven chairs. it’s a great place to meet friends after work for a drink, try a new drink combination and feel like you’ve stepped back in time just a bit. Set back, sip a drink or two and enjoy your journey in a place that has style, class and all the makings of a great bar that will bring you back again and again.
