From the moment we first got sight of Berk, and met Hiccup and Toothless we fell in love with the magical world that DreamWorks made in How to Train Your Dragon. With a mix of Viking flair, the world unfolds into a complex society that goes from hunting dragons to friending and protecting them. Over two movies and an animated series on Netflix, the world has been beautifully brought to life in several versions and the complex interactions between different Viking tribes as well as with the dragons they encounter.
In the final movie in the series, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, the citizens of Berk are once again pitted against other Viking tribes as they try to protect their dragon friends. The village of Berk is starting to become overrun by the amount of dragons they have saved and brought home. Hiccup and his friends are faced with the harrowing decision to rehome their whole tribe or fight to protect their home and friends from a new threat.
With two love stories throughout the movie, one for Hiccup and Astrid and another for Toothless and a Light Fury. Their stories cross and interweave throughout the movie. While there is a lot of fighting and battles throughout the movie, overall they are tempered with comedic moments and nothing super scary for children. The harshest language used throughout the film is “butt” and the characters are relatable for both children and adults.
You will fall in love over and over again when you watch The Hidden World. With heartfelt moments (that may require some tissues), to ones that will take your breath away with the animation and photo realism. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World beautifully wraps up the film franchise and we can only hope that the stories might continue in the cartoon shorts released on Netflix in a new series.
How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is in theaters everywhere on February 22nd.
