Our family were early adopters of “cord cutting”, basically getting rid of cable almost a decade ago. Part of it was cost of cable services, but it was more we wanted to control exactly what we were watching and how. It’s been such a normal part of our lives, that often friends ask if we’ve seen the latest episode of a certain show (as it’s airing) and forget that we may not be able to see it until the next day.
Cutting the cord and streaming not only puts the control of programming in your hands, but it helps break the reliance we have on the schedule the channels create. You can even watch live sports without cable service! And as an added bonus – you don’t have to watch as many commercials (if any at all). So how do you cut the cord? What is the easiest way to do it?
There are a lot of different ways you can cut the cord, and devices you can purchase that can help. But one of the easiest we’ve found is the Google Chromecast Streaming Media Player. It’s a small and affordable device that our friends at Best Buy has on hand, and asked us to tell everyone about.
What makes Chromecast so easy? It’s really a plug and play device. You just plug it into the HDMI port on your TV and it turns your TV into a connected device where you can stream your favorite videos from your phone, Youtube and your favorite streaming apps. Once you start streaming, your phone is still able to work like it normally would. There are more than 2000 apps you can actually stream from, giving you more options than you would from a regular cable subscription! Some do require subscription fees for premium channels – but your regular TV viewing
Do you have a Google Home or another hands-free device hooked up in your home? You can use it to control your Chromecast! Just tell it what TV show you want to watch and where and your show will start streaming.
And the best part about Chromecast? You can turn any TV with a HDMI port into a smart TV! It’s a much more affordable upgrade than buying a new TV! All you need is the device and a high speed Wireless connection to stream to your TV!
