We all associate mistletoe with the holiday season, and pretty soon you can find it at your store to hang for your holiday decoration. The problem always becomes getting stuck under the mistletoe with someone you don’t want to kiss, or even be around. Kissletoe is changing how we look at mistletoe, the tradition and even making a powerful impact with each of their necklaces purchased.
When Kissletoe reached out to see if I’d review their necklace, I had no idea what their product was. Like most people, I only associate mistletoe with Christmas and the holiday season. But after a quick glimpse at their website – I fell in love with their necklaces. Kissletoe necklaces take live mistletoe and preserves it in a necklace so it stays fresh and can be worn around your neck. That means you can wear it all year long, and you can control who you want to kiss with your mistletoe and where!
The Kissletoe necklaces come in three different metals, gold, silver and an aged metal look. And since each pendant contains real mistletoe – every necklace will be unique. The Kissletoe pendants are accented with stones and other metal accent pieces. The chain is lightweight and long, so you can wear it all day without having any any extreme strain on your neck. Our Secret Santa Kissletoe necklace came adorned with a gold leaf and a red stone – making the colors perfect for the holiday season!
Our tradition and relationship with mistletoe goes back to ancient history and mythology. The name apparently translate to Dung on a Twig which doesn’t sound that appealing – does it? Our modern tradition of kissing under mistletoe is based around the legend of Baldur that you kiss under the plant to remember the death of Baldur and it was a symbol of love. The full history is interesting and one that most people don’t know any more.
Proceeds from every purchase of a Kissletoe necklace go to the Malala Fund, which helps empower and enrich the lives of girls throughout the world. Malala was shot and injured by the Taliban and survived the attack on her life and her family. Malala became a global advocate for the millions of girls being denied a formal education because of social, economic, legal and political factors.
I absolutely love my Kissletoe necklace, and think it’s the perfect accent for any holiday outfit or even a night on the town. It’s a fun play on the tradition we all know (and possibly try to avoid). When you wear the necklace, it’s an statement piece and catches people’s eyes! Get ready to be stopped when you wear your Kistletoe necklace, because people will fall in love with them on site.
