With a whole universe and cannon created around Star Wars, fans are always wanting more. And since the next Star Wars film isn’t set to hit theaters until 2023, right now fans will have to get their Star Wars content from Disney+ and binge all of the old shows and movies in the meantime. To help fans endure the wait for the next movie, and to help fill in some more of the timeline, Disney+ is releasing Star Wars: The Bad Batch just in time for May the 4th!
The characters in the Bad Batch were first introduced in the Clone Wars series, a set of five clones who were made differently. Each with their own skillset, this small group of clones aren’t like the rest and are sent out on special missions where their skills can help them succeed. But what they were programmed for may not be what always happens.
Star Wars The Bad Batch drops on Disney+ today with a 70 minute first episode that introduces us to the five main characters and others that will be pivotal in the series. Animated much like the style of The Clone Wars, the characters are a little rough around the edges – but that’s not their animation, that’s their fighting style and how they were written.
The first episode does start a little slow, but that’s to be expected as new characters are introduced and this portion of the universe is established. But if you’re a fan looking forward to the battles and light sabers you’ve grown to love – The Bad Batch definitely delivers. Once the story gets going, you’ll find yourself caught up in it and wanting to know what comes next. And while the world brings back characters we know the fate of much later – it is an interesting series to watch and see more of the world come to life.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch first episode is available on Disney+ Today! This special 70 minute episode will be followed by new episodes every Friday starting on May 7.
