I don’t put a lot of personal things on the blog, it was started as a deal blog – and that’s still its main focus. I do infuse personal bits, reviews, tips and some great recipes (if I do say so myself!) But it’s just one of those days.
I tried to lay down to go to bed a bit ago – but wasn’t able to. They’re at it again, the bad renters. I may have mentioned them in the past. But here’s a quick run down of what’s going on – I promise, I will try to make it quick ;).
Last summer our neighbor told us she was moving – we weren’t too worried about it since we were friendly with her, but not friends.
We met the investor, he tore out some of her ugly design ideas (trust me they were BAD). He was nice, we weren’t worried. And when his renters moved in on October 1st in the middle of the night, we let it go. Hey – I’ve been a renter for years, sometimes you have to move when you have to move. One night of noise wasn’t a big deal anyhow. If it was only one night, it wouldn’t be a big deal. During this time, I was also doing a consulting job out of town. While I was staying with family I wasn’t sleeping well because it’s not my bed and home. And when I was here I couldn’t sleep because of the noise. It continued for months – to the point we started our house hunt.
We didn’t find a house last fall that we liked enough to get, and we stayed put. We’ve had to call the cops on the neighbors for domestic violence, noise violations, we’ve found drugs in our yard – there are always parties rattling our house. Portions of our yard and my gardens have been devastated by the random hoard of children they have over there at any given time – only one MIGHT live there. And did I mention they even stole our recycling bin once?
On the other side of us, we have other renters. They’re the picture perfect neighbor. On good weather days – I will stand outside for hours and talk with the neighbor. We borrow items we need from each other. But even they are being kept up at night by the people on the other side of our house. Several of the neighbors have called the cops multiple times. Our suburb is right on the city line, and while we’re small – we have a list of ordinances larger than our little city. But apparently, somewhere in that mess – renters have more rights than home owners. We are in our house and being driven crazy by them.
This summer has been extremely hot – which we all have had a hard time with. Yes, we’ve all spent a lot of time inside in the fans and the A/C. That being said – right now I think it’s a blessing. The summer has only had a few noisy nights – we haven’t had to call the cops since the early summer. This doesn’t mean that at any point there aren’t 4 or 5 children under the age of five outside without adults…
Even over the holiday it was parties, fireworks and our yard was for their use. I even found a burnt out firework on the roof our garage the other day… Thankfully that didn’t start a fire!
The noise has been so bad in the past, I haven’t used our office in months. Instead I work on my laptop on a laptop desk/tray in the front living room. I still hear the yelling and cussing from their house 40 feet on the other side of me. However this is starting to take it’s toll on my back, shoulders and arm – since a recliner isn’t exactly good for you to spend all day in and on a computer.
We started looking for a house again last month – and right now I hope we find one soon. Today was cooler than it has been in months -I found 12 children outside. I went shopping came back and unloaded the goodies into the house. I did well shopping today, bonus for that! Shortly after I went to pick up dinner – and the kids were in our yard, up the drive and everything. I didn’t say a word, just put my purse in the car and they started to scatter.
The noise went from 8 this morning until a few minutes ago. They’re lucky they stopped by 11pm since that’s the time when the noise ordinance kicks in. It’s been a long day of pounding and noise, cussing and screaming kids. I think it all kit me at once, it will be months of this again unless we find a place in the next month or two.
So tomorrow, I’ll be up early – which means I should get to bed soon. I will be mowing my lawn as soon as I’m allowed (noise ordinance works that way too!) It’s usually my answer for their day and night long noise fests – wake them up with a lawn mower. Then I think I will work on organizing and packing some – that might make some noise over here that will wake them up early.
I know I said I’d keep it short, I don’t think I did that! Sorry! I will be on some tomorrow, but it might not be until later in the evening. I need a break and it might mean a drive to Metro Beach for a walk on the sand.. something to get away from the noise.
So if you hear a scream.. sorry it’s me 😉
