Sometimes You Just Need To Get-Away @WashingtonDC

White House
Stress is part of life – that’s nothing new. But after a while it tends to build up and we just need to run away. Between work, the upcoming move (that has been slightly delayed), and the three years of searching leading up to it – to say that we needed to get away would be an understatement.

My boyfriend Jason mentioned taking a long weekend trip – someplace easily drive-able from home in a day – so of course I thought he meant up north. But a couple years ago I found out he had never been to any of the 13 original colonies. We have traveled out West a few times since we’ve been dating, so my goal has to been to get him to the East Coast. As we were researching he started he kept finding ideas in Virginia – only 8 hours away by car. When I suggested we just add a half hour and spend some time in Washington DC – the decision was made and reservations were made shortly! It had been 15+ years since I had been to Washington DC, things change obviously but some of the best things don’t.

Over our 4 day trip we drove 1088 miles, walked over 15 miles, and traveled several more on the Metro. We walked until we couldn’t any more – then made more plans for the ride home. I’ll be posting some of our trip over the next few days, there are some great things to do and all within a small budget!  Stay tuned for some great summer trip ideas coming soon – and oddly enough, I’ll be back in DC in just over a month!
