sodastream caps review

Sodastream capsWe’re big fans of our Sodastream. Not only can we have our own flavors of soda on demand, but we have the flexibility of having our own soda type without having to run to the store or fill up our recycling bin. But making our soda in the past was a bit messy with the bottles and measuring lids. Now Sodastream has come out with a product that makes it easy to make, and less washing is required: Sodastream caps! They send us a couple boxes to try out, and it’s love at first site.

Sodastream caps

Sodastream caps are available in almost every flavor that they create currently. If your flavor isn’t in a cap form just give it a little time – more are coming out all the time. The caps are small, but inside each one is the exact amount of syrup you need for your favorite soda. One cap will work for one liter bottle, or four servings of that soda.

One of my favorite features of the Sodastream caps is that they are recyclable. In the past I’d have to measure out the syrup I needed in the lid, hope I got it right and pour it in. Now with the Sodastream caps you get the right amount in one “pour” and can throw the cap in the recycling bin. I do remove the paper lid and rinse it out before throwing it in my recycling bin so they don’t attract bugs or animals. But there is no washing to do, no guess work and they’re super easy to recycle.

Sodastream caps will work with any standard liter bottle, or even their newer bottles. You simply place them over the opening, use your hand to push them down until you hear a “click” then wait until all of the syrup is dispensed. When you push the cap onto the bottle it pushes the little plastic feet up, breaking the seal and releasing your syrup inside. The rest is just like any other time you make syrup, put the lid on the bottle and shake gently until combined.

We love the ease of the new Sodastream caps, and the variety of flavors. But I also enjoy the fact that I can use one and know that it will be picked up by my recycling man each week. This means besides reducing the bottles we use, the plastic used in the caps will be reused in products later.

When I was given the Sodastream caps I was warned they’re fragile and to not knock them around. Which, I suppose is a good general rule with anything that has a syrup inside. That being said – I did manage to drop a few off the counter… several times and they never leaked a drop! They are a bit more rugged than I was told, but that doesn’t mean you should toss them around. Just think of all the delicious soda you would lose if you did that!

You can find Sodastream caps at any of your major retailers that sell the syrup bottles as well as online.
