The garden should be seen as an extra room. So, when you are thinking about interior design, give some thought to how you are going to make the garden special too. It’s not as if there aren’t options for you. There are so many ways you can improve your outdoor space regardless of the size or shape of it. The only thing limiting you is yourself and the amount of creativity you are prepared to put into the garden. The obvious fact of the matter is the more effort you put into it, the more outstanding it will be. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Make a plan
Have a good look at the space you have and imagine how it could look. It may need a good tidy first. So go around and collect all the rubbish and rake up all the old leaves and sweep the patio. Once you can really see what you have to play with, then you can begin to make a plan. List all the features you like and want to keep and then think about how you will change the things you are not so fond of. It may be an idea to have a look in magazines and online and develop some ideas. Do all this in exactly the same way you would for the interior of your home.
If you live in the city and have a small garden area that is overlooked, it may be an idea to get rid of the grass as cover it entirely with a patio. You can add a few chairs and a table too. In a large garden, it may be an idea to patio over a section to create a seating area, somewhere to take friends and family. Alternatively, a decking area may be a good call. Then you can stand and lean on the balcony and look out over the garden.
If you are surrounded by walls in a small garden area, give them a lick of paint. Perhaps decorate the walls with a mural or a stencil. These are great ways to make the most of a small garden. You can also add potted plants around, and attach them to the walls themselves, therefore extending the garden upwards. In more extensive gardens, you could have a lush wide flower border in front of a pretty hedge or fencing. You may want to think about having old fencing removed and replaced with more modern.
Lighting is an excellent effect in an outside space. If you have a long garden, you could have attractive lighting dotted strategically all the way down to the bottom. Or a small garden, think about some down lighting on the walls to illuminate the space and add atmosphere. You need lighting if you are going to enjoy those summer evenings with friends. Also, for safety reasons, think about having outdoor motion sensor flood lights installed. They are sure to deter any would-be burglar.
