Whenever we’re traveling I love finding local places to try out in the area. This past summer we made a couple day stop in Paducah, Kentucky and while we were there we made a visit to a Moonshine Distillery as well as a local winery – Purple Toad Winery. I had seen their logo and website long before our trip down since we have family in the area, so we made sure we took time to visit while we were down that way.
When we visited Purple Toad Winery they were expanding their facility and the main entrance and tasting area was closed. While this may seem a bit odd, the secondary entrance during the construction was actually though the back and bottling area. This allowed us to see some of their wine being bottled, labeled and packaged for sale. The tasting area was small, but for our purposes we wanted.
Unlike many wineries here in Michigan, there was no charge for a tasting at Purple Toad. We were able to try out as many wines as we wanted, and ended up getting several bottles of the Black and Blue as well as the Moscato. Purple Toad Winery also offered wine slushies which on a 90 degree day sounded more than tempting!
The wines at Purple Toad Winery are grown on the property of Purple Toad Winery, and you can walk in part of the vineyard when you come to the property. For us, it was a fun visit to Purple Toad Winery and would head back again on our next trip down to Kentucky to visit family. I can’t wait to see the updates since we were there this summer and to see the expanded offerings.
