Pup Star Season 2

Pup Star Season 2 Filming Now! #pupstarmovie @airbud

Filming of Pup Star Season 2 is wrapping up this week in Victoria, British Columbia. Following in the footsteps of Pup Star, the second film follows Tiny, her family and other dogs through the singing competition just for dogs. Last week, I was invited to visit the movie set to watch the filming as well as to meet some of the cast and crew.

Pup Star Season 2Pup Star Season 2 is the 20th film for Air Bud Entertainment, who focuses on family friendly films for all ages but more specifically the movies with talking animals. They believe that there should be live action movies for younger children without any inappropriate or scary moments. Their movies are truly ones that families safe for everyone to watch but also are filled with positive values that parents can appreciate and approve of.

Pup Star Season 2Before my trip to Victoria, I had never been on an active movie set. While filming can take a while, it was interesting to be able to see some of the moment happen in front of us, and how it would later translate to the big screen. One of the most interesting parts for me was watching the trainers work with the dogs. While you can’t see it while watching the movies, the animal trainers are merely steps away from the dogs performing. The voice acting comes later, but getting the dogs (and cats in this movie) to perform for their parts takes several takes and very talented animal trainers.

Pup Star Season 2When you watch Pup Star Season 2, you will see the finals of the singing competition in a large theater. These scenes were actually filmed in the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney, BC – a small community theater. The use of green screens and computer editing will make this theater much larger theater and space for the film. Special effects are added and blended as well for some other scenes in the movie, including the smoke since the dogs wont work with it, as well as the mouth movements of the animals.
