Promising Young Woman Review

Every revenge movie has a bit of sweet joy people can relate to. We watch and fantasize about the payback we wish we could give to the people that harmed us or the people we love. But unlike the Taken movies, Promising Young Woman takes it to another level and resonates with women everywhere – finding a way to right some of the wrongs we have all experiences while dating, or even just walking down the side walk.

Promising Young Woman follows the story of Cassie, a young woman who seemed to have everything going for her until she changes everything in her life. Now by day she happily works a dead end job and at night, uses her skills to pay revenge on people who mean to do her harm. But her nightly ritual is just the tip of iceberg.

The cause for Cassie’s change in life and her nightly ritual is slowly revealed as the movie unfolds. But while the viewer may never got the extremes and put yourself in the situations Cassie does, you can completely understand why she does it. Even before knowing why she started doing it in the first place.

The first first few minutes of the film was hard to get through as a woman, as we’ve all found ourselves in a slightly vulnerable position and know how easy it is to be taken advantage of. But stay with the film, it quickly turns around and hooks you in – and you find that Cassie is not the victim she appears to be.

Revenge is always best served on those who deserve it – and Promising Young Woman let’s all of our rage play out on the screen in a delicious new way. While her actions are ones that we personally could not justify or do ourselves, you’ll find yourself cheering for Cassie as she does what she has to to make things right.

The movie is definitely not one for younger viewers including sex, violence, cursing and all of the stuff needed to earn it a R rating. But it is a wonderful rage filled ride that you will enjoy with a great payoff.

Promising Young Woman will be in theaters on Christmas day where they are open.
