We can’t deny it- Bumblebee is our favorite Transformer! And now he’s getting his own feature film. Today Paramount Pictures announced that Bumblebee is going to be released in theaters in December 2018. The film will star John Cena and of course that lovable Yellow Transformer we all know and love. While the film isn’t going to have any of it’s film shot in Detroit, you can expect we’ll be heading to the theaters to see this one as soon as it’s live. Paramount Pictures, in association with HASBRO, announced today that principal photography has commenced on “BUMBLEBEE.” The film’s shoot will take place entirely in California, including in Southern and Northern California.

On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug.
The film is produced by “TRANSFORMERS” franchise veterans Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Michael Bay, along with executive producers Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner and Mark Vahradian. Chris Brigham (“ARGO,” “INCEPTION”) will also executive produce. The screenplay is written by Christina Hodson (“UNFORGETTABLE”).
