While New Year’s Eve is always a big night for daters, the following day can be just as fun. Here are thoughts on how to spend your day.
What better way to start the year than by meeting your partner out for a daytime date? Many people have off of work on New Year’s Day, so it’s an especially good time to hang out, relax, and get to know each other a little better. If you’re stumped for ideas on what to do, here are a few to spark your creativity.
Movie Marathon
What better way to snuggle up than by watching back to back movie favorites? Choose movies that will interest both of you and provide enough opportunities for conversation. Every good date needs some time built in to just talk with one another because it’s how you help decide if the person is right for you.
A great way to decide on movies is have you each pick one that is your favorite. You’ll compromise this way, and also see another part of your mate’s personality. (Someone’s favorite movie always says a little bit about them.)
Make the day special with champagne and treats. Some couples decide to have a “theme” day, where they watch movies that all follow a specific type or subject matter (for example, French films, movies starring a specific actor, movies that were made from books, etc.) and then they make snacks that follow the theme.
Brunch
You can’t go wrong with brunch, because it encompasses all the romance of a special dinner, along with daytime hours so you can still enjoy conversation and the sun. If you find a champagne brunch? Even better.
New Year’s brunches are also a good way to talk about your upcoming year and make plans for a short trip or holiday. They are also frugal, and who doesn’t need to save a little money these days? Many of the best restaurants in your town probably offer brunch at a fraction of the cost of dinner.
Game Day
Pair up with your partner to play a round of Wii games. Or invite another couple over and have some fun with board games. Games are a good way to test your compatibility as a couple, and also let yourself relax and be silly. You’ll get some insight into your partner this way, too, as competitive or forgiving sides automatically come out with games.
Enjoy the Weather
No matter where you live, there are a number of outdoor activities going on in your town. If you’re in the colder parts of the country, go cross country skiing or ice skating. If you’re lucky enough to be in a warm climate, a stroll in the park can be as romantic now as it is in summer.
New Year’s Day can be a time to start a tradition between the two of you, so take advantage of it. Use the time off to get to know your partner and just enjoy his or her company. So often in dating couples put pressure on themselves when it comes to finding someone new, so put those thoughts aside and just enjoy your day.
