Moonlight Yoga Detroit

I love my normal group yoga class at my gym, but as a hobbiest yogi, I enjoy spicing up my yoga routines now & then with new yoga experiences.

Michelle Moten from Detroit’s Urban Solance has brought yoga out of the studio for all yogis in & near Detroit to meet together at West Riverfront Park. To encompass everyone even more, the class is geared for beginner levels & all ages,. Even as an intermediate yogi, I still felt like my body was challenged to stretch farther onward in my yoga Moonlight Yoga Detroitpractice & I had a relaxing time after a busy & stressful day at work. Of course yoga is made more fun with glow necklaces & bracelets all around, but even regular Warrior poses were made new with our light-saber-like glow wands. Practicing along the beautiful river while watching the sunset, cars span the Ambassador bridge, cruise & shipping boats share the waterway, & wondering about the wanderings of Windsor-ites just sparked even more curiosity in me.

On a personal note, the weather was during the “Heat Wave of 2016” with temperatures still near 90 at 7:30 when I left my apartment. I was nervous of my wardrobe choice of capri pants, but the weather cools down in the evenings, especially near the riverbank. You may want to plan to wear pants or also to bring a warm shirt. Bring your mat, towel, & water & be sure to eat & use the restroom before arriving.

Moonlight Yoga DetroitParking and registration was not very easily spot-able, so be on the lookout on Jefferson when you arrive for the remaining summer classes on August 3rd & August 24th. Be sure to register online early (up to 2 weeks ahead) to ensure your spot in the 150 person class. With all of the fun & frugal price of $5 per class, they are sure to sell out!

Week99er received complimentary registration to attend the Moonlight Yoga class.

Moonlight Yoga is part of a multi-year partnership initiative between Blue Cross and the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy called Live the Riverfront, which encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through a series of free activities along the riverfront. Other components of Live the Riverfront include Walk the RiverWalk Wednesdays, weekly T’ai Chi and yoga classes, the annual Riverfront Run and the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan  Fit Park along the Dequindre Cut.
