As summer winds to an end we can look back fondly and be happy that life is about to return to normal. I’ve been on the road a lot this summer, almost more than I have ever before. Heck, you might be on the road this weekend for the holiday. But that doesn’t mean we wont want to still check in. We all know that our social media sites are now a big part of our lives and its a great way to keep up with our friends and family.
While you’re traveling you can’t always trust that your hotel, camp ground or even coffee shop will have wi-fi you can use. And if you’re lucky enough to have free wi-fi it may not be as fast as you are use to. This is where having a mobile hotspot comes in handy.
You can get an outside unit and connect several devices at once – but why get another unit when chances are your phone already has the capability. The mobile hotspot service on your phone can be turned on and off as you need it, and you are only charged when the service is turned on (with the provider).
Throughout my travels this summer I’ve been relying heavily on the mobile hotspot on my Blackberry Z10. While I’ve sat through lectures, worked in hotel rooms and yes, even camping. It has worked in big cities and even smaller towns with one traffic light. Where ever the Verizon 4G network reached I was able to access my blog, my Facebook accounts and even my business emails.
Unfortunately the service isn’t quite available everywhere. While we were camping in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula last week we were too far north for any service, 3G, phone or anything. While we were initially bummed about not having connection, we simply enjoyed some of the natural beauty around us. All of that being said, we did find service in an unlikely spot, on top of Mount Arvon – Michigan’s highest point. We didn’t have service on the reservation at the base of the mountain, the whole ride up or anywhere in between, however on top 4G came singing through.
As I keep traveling for my job and the blog having the hotspot is saving me not only time but money. I can be assured the same quality internet service each time I use it, and know that I can reach out when I need to (as well as turn off when I don’t need it). I’d much rather carry it with me than rely on overtaxed service in hotels or coffee shops. Besides being one of my favorite features on my Z10, I think it’s one of the best cost saving features.
