How far would you go for your dream life? For a safe place to live and a sense of security? For more people there is a limit, but we really don’t know what we’d do if we had no other choice. The privileged most of us have is a roof over our heads, food in the fridge and knowing that we’ll be reasonably safe. But what if that wasn’t the case? Just how far would you go?
In Random Media’s Landing Up we meet Chrissie, who not only changes her name but her story depending on her need of the day. From dressing up to trick a guy into taking her home so she has a bed to sleep in that night to doing what it takes to have some form of income that day. Her life is anything but picturesque, resorting to using her body in exchange for a bed or work that brings in come – whatever she has to do to keep her off of the streets. But when she meets a guy by chance, she sees her chance to finally break the cycle of the hand life has dealt her, find love and finally have the safety and security she hopes to find in life.
Landing Up makes you check your privilege at the door. The movie is a bit raw, and you feel for what both Chrissie and her friend Cece are subjected to just to survive. Both are dehumanized on multiple occasions and deal with it because the alternative is worse. There are some sexual moments that are clearly an abuse of power, and others where the girls use their own sexuality to get them out of the situations they’re trying to escape. With genuine moments between Chrissie and David, they balance with the darker moments in the film. Overall the film is engaging, and makes you question yourself and just how far you’ll go for your own safety, security and examine just what privileges you already have.

About Landing Up:
Chrissie (Stacey Maltin) is young, wild, and living on the streets. She and her best friend Cece (E’dena Hines) use their youth and good looks to their advantage, playing a con game with strangers to put a roof over their heads, while all the time fantasizing about having enough money to score their dream apartment. When Chrissie meets David (Ben Rappaport), a funny, genuine guy who works his way into her heart, she falls for him and must decide whether to confess the real circumstances of her life or continue her carefully crafted lie at all costs.
