Kroger Marketplace Grand Opening

Other than work and the house, the place I seem to visit most often is the grocery store. I always need a little of this, or just one more ingredient for a recipe. I was first introduced to Kroger when I moved to Lansing as a kid. It was a standard grocery store, and one I visited often. Now, I almost have a daily visit to one of our local Kroger stores – we have eight within a few mile radius of our house. Each store is a different size, offers the same basics but the larger stores often have specialty sections and wider varieties to choose from.

Today, I had the pleasure of touring the brand new Kroger Marketplace, before it opens to the public tomorrow. What is the differenceKroger Marketplace Grand Opening

between a standard Kroger store and a Kroger Marketplace? Size and of course the offerings.

The new Shelby Township Kroger Marketplace is the first in the state of Michigan, it is also the largest Kroger in the state. Inside you will not only find the produce and groceries you are use to seeing, but also a full service Starbucks location, a Sushi Bar, an area for prepared meals, bulk food services, a grill area, a wine cellar, Murray’s Cheese shop (also the first location in Michigan!), a toy section, Baby Land, apparel and a full sized Fred Meyer Jewelers! It’s more than I could have expected inside any Kroger store.

Kroger Marketplace not only boasts a larger selection than any of their stores in our state, but also was designed with energy saving measures in mind. The store has LED lighting throughout, high efficiency coolers and the latest technology. The store also features free Wifi throughout the store, making it easier to check your coupon matchups, clip digital coupons and more.

Besides the beautiful design of the store, the new location also has wider aisles for easier navigation. Pick up an aisle guide when you first enter the store, or grab one off of an end cap to help you get through the store. The main goal of Kroger Marketplace – to be your one stop shop. You can find your groceries as usual, get the latest kitchen gadgets (woohoo!), shop for a new outfit, get something great for your baby or an upcoming baby shower.

One of my favorite features of the Kroger Marketplace, well of course besides the great selection – the focus on Michigan products and companies. As you go throughout the store look for the “Made in Michigan” tags on the shelves, or the Mitten to indicate that it is from a local vendor. That even includes a large selection of Boars Head products. They have so many products around the store you could easily make a gift basket full of Michigan products for your out of state friends.

I am also in love with the Naturals section. It is the largest I’ve ever seen in any grocery store, and offers gluten free products that I have yet to see elsewhere. Get your organic honey, grind your own nut butters or grab your kefir as you shop. The store has a large focus on the organic product offerings and making sure that they are fresh and of the highest quality. I have a feeling I’ll be visiting this section often.

For the first week Kroger Marketplace will have special Grand Opening deals, as well as many of the deals you will find at the smaller Kroger stores near you. Check out the great deals and match ups on Bargains to Bounty’s Website. I’m heading back in tomorrow for $10/10 Strawberries and Pineapples – who wouldn’t love that price?

  1. I wish I still lived in MI! This sounds amazing! I hope that we get one down here in Georgia. There’s not one within a 30 mile radius at least and traveling 30 miles is about 45 minutes to an hour here.

    • They don’t have it up on the site yet – But other than their opening week their ads should match other local stores!
