Homemade Greek Yogurt
We’ve always been told that breakfast is one of the most important meals of the day. Making sure it is healthy is very important as well. I’m always looking for some healthy options to serve. For me it’s always been hard to find yogurts that aren’t full of gluten, artificial sweeteners or other chemicals. There are a few, but I wanted to try making it on my own, and I was shocked at how easy it is!

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups of whole milk (pasteurized)
  • 2 tbsp plain unflavored Greek yogurt with active live cultures or yogurt cultures, check for them at your health food store!
  • 2 tbsp of whole milk (same type used as above)

Directions:

  1. Bring all of your ingredients to room temperature
  2. In a medium pan heat your milk to the boiling point. Pour hot milk into a large glass bowl and let it cool back to about 110 degrees – you will notice a skin form on top.
  3. In a small bowl mix together your cultures and whole milk. Slowly pour it down the side of the bowl to not disturb the skin that has formed on top.
  4. Place the bowl on a tea towel and place another towel over top. Let it sit in a warm and dry place overnight.
  5. In the morning carefully drain off any extra liquid. Refrigerate for 4 hours before use.
  6. Add your favorite toppings and enjoy!

You can keep it in your fridge for about 4 days. Save a couple tablespoons from this batch so you can use it for your next batch starter! The yogurt was thinner than commercial yogurt but the flavor was fantastic! I added organic strawberries and agave to mine. Delicious! We’ll be making this more often around here :)This recipe is part of the Food Challenge with nine other bloggers.
