The best tip I have to ensure my kids are safely surfing the net is that I do not let them go online yet! They are only babies, but if they were to go online, I would have to check out Growing up Online.
I have teens (one being 18) and I do not let them go on-line anywhere but the living room. No internet access in their bedroom at all. I keep in communication with them about what web-sites they are visiting, and what is appropriate internet behavior.
My son is 10 and I do not let him online. He plays an occasional game under my supervision.
Having a parental block on the computer and monitering them while online
In order to make sure my kids are safe on the internet, the screen will always be visible to me and they won’t be left alone while online.

We have certain sites blocked on our home computer so the kid’s cannot go to them.
DO NOT LET THEM GO INTO CHAT ROOMS.

Closely monitor what they do while on the computer and set blocks.
My best tip is to be involved and aware of what they are doing online
The best tip is to keep the computer in sight,
The best tip is to not allow them to have anything with passwords that you don’t know, make sure you check and always check the browsing history. There are programs you can buy that they can’t see that will keep a record of everything done by keystroke. Then review it to be sure. Oh and don’t allow them to be members on sites until they’re at least the minimum age limit set.
Don’t let them online unless you are there to supervise!
I think communication is key. Talk to your children. Tell them what is not acceptable and explain to them why. A lot of them have no idea what could happen. They need someone to tell them, don’t assume that they know.
Monitor what they are doing and keep open access to all of their accounts !
The best tip is not letting them put personal information online. Once that information is online, it can never be deleted -it’s out there FOREVER. So it’s very important to teach kids how sensitive that information is.
I have a program that limits where they can go
I think talking to kids about why it’s important not to talk to people you don’t know and keeping a password on the computer so that you know when they are on the computer are important to keep kids safe!
Parental locks and supervision.
We keep the computer by us and we keep an eye on them. They are only allowed on for a small amount of time a week.
Have parental control options on your computer put to good use. Also limit the time that they play for.
Using the parental blocks and monitoring what my sons are allowed to go on.
I do not let my children on websites I do not know of. They only play in the same room as me and their father.

I make sure that I am by them at all times.

I respect their privacy yet keep my eye on it at the same time
we monitor and block sites
I think having parental controls on your kids computer is really important.

i keep my kids safe online by watching them careful and installing avast soft wear.
Pay attention to what they are doing, and use parental block controls when necessary.
I monitor everything my son does online. Also, the computer is only used when I’m in the room.
I live with and care for two young grandsons, 8 and nearly 6, who are as technophile as the adults in the family, so this is a large issue for us.
I have so far had little problem with the older boy going to sites he shouldn’t. I bought a low-cost computer for him when he was 4, to use for homeschool, and put the Glubble.com software on it, which restricts online access to pre-approved websites. But since he has gotten older and can access the web directly on his computer or tablet we have had several talks about what is right or wrong to view online. We are Christians and he is very serious about “wearing his armor” so far. In my monitoring his activity – and I do, I check his internet cache – he seems disinterested in viewing anything that we have talked about avoiding, even on Youtube. On Youtube so far he has stuck to Minecraft videos, as he loves Minecraft.
And There is a big flashing warning light – Minecraft and other online social games! We had many talks about online predators before he was allowed to play it, and his father and I monitor his “friends” on the game.
The younger boy, however, is fearlessly adventurous, and can and will access anything he can turn on and manipulate. We have had to password protect everything electronic except his personal user account on the boys’ computer, and I added as many childproof settings as possible to his account because before that he was accessing the operating system files! He has been found logged into his father’s XBox games and playing with his father’s online friends, and my Facebook friends received some strange messages a few times when I forgot to turn on my Toddler Keys program that locks the keyboard and mouse.
But the little one is very smart although slightly developmentally delayed and speech-impaired, and the Kindle Fire that I let him play educational games on has taught him all his alphabet and numbers, to count, to read a few words, and added many more words to his vocabulary. We just bought a Chromebook so that I can use the ABCMouse and the PBS websites for his school. He sits next to me when he plays on it and it seems to be the ticket for him. Electronic games keep his attention much longer than I can with a book, although I am trying to work with him with the “Teach Your Child to Read in 100 Easy Lessons” book I used to teach his brother to read.
My conclusion is that the key to keeping children safe anywhere is constant vigilance and as much wisdom as can be mustered.
we always kept the pc in the living room where we could monitor
Use parental filters. Then monitor their history.
Keep the computer in a central location so that you can monitor your kids activity.
Monitoring the sites they look at, talking to them about the dangers of giving out info.
My best advice is to not put any personal information on any website
Supervise them
Check browser history often
I supervise what they look at and use parental blocks.
My best tip is to go to sites which are age appropriate first before you let your children go to them.
Go to sites before you allow your kids too
