Dinner can take a while to make, and to be fair we don’t always have time. We love grilling in our house, but as the weather starts cooling down I don’t always want to run out and start up the grill. There are some great things you can do to prepare dinner and quickly inside, even when it isn’t exactly grilling weather outside.
This fall Ronco introduced their newest product to the market – the Ready Grill. With the new vertical grill, you can cook meat, vegetables and seafood without smoke, a mess and more. I first saw the new vertical grill this spring, but I was excited to test it out when it showed up.
When you first assemble the Ready Grill you just have to remove some plastic sheeting, and slide the grill catcher in place. Just be sure that the opening is on the outside or you might end up with a mess. To get your food ready just remove the basket, and fill it up with food. You can do a combination of meat and vegetables or whatever you want. I was craving risotto as our side so I just filled it up with a couple pounds of chicken breasts. Season to your liking (I did olive oil and salt and pepper) and slide into the grill.
Cooking with the Ready Grill is super easy! Just slide your basket in and turn the dial on the front. The timer dial only goes up to a half hour, so everything you make will be done in about that time or less! Once you turn it on you just set it and let it work! While the chicken was cooking, I was finishing the risotto, blanched some green beans and even frosted cupcakes.
The Ready Grill is a vertical grill so it doesn’t take up a lot of space on your counter. It’s actually only about 5 inches thick and under 2 feet wide. It is extremely easy to slide the basket in and out. And unlike other products it doesn’t get extremely hot on the outside. Now, I’m sure that using oven mitts to remove the basket is recommended, I was able to remove our chicken with no oven mitts or protection. Since the food is exposed on all sides it cooks evenly without flipping or removing the basket part way through. But it is because of the basket design, I’d suggest removing it to a heat safe cutting surface since there might be parts or juice still flowing.
It was extremely easy to use the Ready Grill, and we had fully cooked chicken breast in 25 minutes! They were moist and delicious, and went well with the rest of our dinner. But my favorite thing about the Ready Grill – how easy it is to clean up! The grease trap comes apart and can be popped in the dishwasher, and the basket and heat shields can be washed quickly by hand or in the dishwasher as well. The small size makes it easy to store, and pull out when you want to grill or cook a quick meal without all the mess. It didn’t pump out a lot of heat, so it could be a great tool to use when it’s too hot to turn on the oven.
