Even though the weather is getting to be a little colder and blustering, there are a few things you can do to get in a warmer state of mind. Close your eyes, imagine a sun setting over a white sand beach, picture a fruity cocktail in your hand, or even enjoy some delicious rum cakes from the Islands. Tortuga Rum Cakes sent me just a small taste of their products to try out for the holidays this year, and it brought back some great memories for me as well as my family.
At the beginning of this year, our family took a cruise to the Caribbean. Our trip took us to three different islands, but on our stop in the Grand Cayman Islands we actually made a stop to the Tortuga Rum Factory, and saw where the the rum cakes and rum balls were made, as well as some rum sampling! 
So imagine my family’s reaction when I arrived with some of the Tortuga Rum Cakes and Rum Balls. It didn’t take long until they had cracked into the cakes and were enjoying them. I could hear the yums and “mmmms” from the other room and they enjoyed the cakes. I only put out the original rum cakes and coconut flavored one. Each cake soaked in the high proof Tortuga rum and full of moist flavor. Every rum cake is sealed so they’ll be fresh when you get them – and trust me you will immediately smell the delicious rum when you open them up!
As for the rum balls – well, I didn’t put those out to share. Those were all for me! They’re more like a chocolate truffles covered in sprinkles. I’ll be honest, when I hear rum balls I expect chocolate surrounding liquid rum – that is not what you get here. Instead they are chocolate truffle centers mixed with their great rum and strong in flavor. I’ve found that the first one seems strong each time you break into them, but as you eat a couple more they’re not as strong – just like a good round of drinks. While the rum cakes get rave reviews, I’m partial to the rum balls and have been trying to enjoy them just a few at a time to save them as long as possible.
Not everyone can afford a trip to the Caribbean, but they can enjoy a taste of the Islands with Tortuga Rum Cakes and Rum Balls. True rum taste in some small packages that will please the pickiest eater and bring back those warm memories of the those white sands, the blue waters and the warm sun.
