Earlier this summer I learned about the 5×20 program from Coca Cola, their international women’s empowering campaign. Their 5×20 campaign has a goal of 5 million entrepenuers by the year 2020. The program helps educate, empower, and give women the skills they need to grow their own business and compete on a local and larger market. In the 5×20 program, women can be connected with mentors, learn basic skills or even learn financial skills to run their business. You can read more about the 5×20 inititive on the Coca-Cola website.
When I met with Coca Cola in July, they gave me this adorable small clutch made out of out of Coca Cola labels. It holds a lot and is handmade by artisans. While this item is on back order (due to popular demand I might add), you can get other hand created gifts that help kick start women and families income in impoverished countries.
If you’re decorating your tree this year, why not add a hand made ornament that helps give back. And it’s only $3.50 – so it’d could be a great stocking stuffer or even a gift tag if you aren’t having a tree this year!
The gifts on the 5by20 website range from jewelry including bracelets and earrings, plus purses, decorations and accessories. There are a lot of different gifts that could give back and help empower women on the other side of the world. I personally love the handmade reindeer statue – wouldn’t he look great on your shelf? He’s made in Kenya and stands 35 cm tall (just over a foot) and looks like he’s ready for the holiday season! And at $28, he’s cheaper than a lot of the mass made products you’ll find in other local stores.
We love hand made gifts and items that have a story behind them, and the gifts from 5by20 fit perfectly in that category and our home. Every gift is handmade and has a unique story behind it. You can find out more about the gift options and ideas at 5by20.com
