It’s hard to say “no” when you’re invited to an event to taste some high quality chocolate and wine. So when Gayle’s Chocolate in Royal Oak invited myself and other bloggers to a wine and chocolate pairing event – I, of course, had to be there. I have been a fan of Gayle’s for years now, and love their handmade, high quality chocolates, but had never tried pairing them with different wines. The wines were provided for by Elie Wine Company, and varied from dry reds to mixed and even port.
I wouldn’t say I’m a wine connoisseur by any stretch of the term, but I know what I like when it comes to wine. I’m usually a white wine gal, and lean towards the sweeter side. The wines provided by Elie Wine Company ranged in different degrees of red and even mixtures. The tannin and bitter levels were higher than I’m use to – but paired great with some of the chocolates. We tested each of the five chocolates with six different wines, to see if we could find a favorite. Each chocolate worked a little different with each wine, and it was fun to see how the flavors worked together.
Now, as far as chocolate goes – I am extremely picky about the type of chocolate I get and the ingredients inside. Gayle’s Chocolate is known locally for their fun handmade designs, including their chocolate shoes. They are also known for the great tasting chocolate, but what most people don’t know is that chocolate is made without fillers, without corn syrup or anything that would make it lose its good quality. You can get everything from milk chocolate, white chocolate, and dark chocolate up to 72%. They even hand make truffles, which are the only chocolates they recommend you refrigerate since they contain cream.
It was a fun night tasting and enjoying chocolate with Gayle’s Chocolate and Elie’s wine company. It was fun tasting the chocolate and finding new flavor combinations.
Gayle’s would like one of my readers to sit back and enjoy some of their delicious chocolate just in time for Easter. They are giving away one of their 2 1/2 lb Chocolate rabbits and will ship it to the winner. The winner will also get to select if they want the rabbit milk chocolate or dark chocolate.
