Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget Review

Fans of Aardman and director Sam Fell are about to get a special treat – the ability to stream the new Chicken Run movie as soon as it’s available this week on Netflix. The sequel to the 2000 movie Chicken Run, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget picks up years later after Ginger and Rocky are enjoying their life in freedom and away from the fear of being eaten. Their daughter Molly makes a new friend and finds herself in almost a chicken Utopia – until things aren’t as great as they seem. Her parents have to break into a chicken processing plant to save her, and Molly won’t leave until they save all of her new friends.

In the distinctive claymation style that Aardman is known for, Dawn of the Nuggest brings a silly and fun adventure to the small screen this year. With over-exaggerated faces, mouths just a bit too large for character’s faces, and a world that seems to have the contrast up just a bit too much – the movie will not only grab your kids’ attention but keep it.

Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget Review

The story and characters are similar enough to the original movie but with the addition of a new generation. Still boasting and an all-star cast, some of the characters have been recast for the streaming version compared to the theatrical release in 2000. This doesn’t make enough of a change to the characters overall that fans of the original won’t like the new movie, instead, they quite easily flow from the first to the second.

The movie, in short, is cute and fun. It may be geared towards younger audiences but fans of the original are grown up by now and will love watching this new chapter. It’s not a long movie, but the story goes at a pace that makes it even seem shorter. It’s a great addition the the Aardman library and fans of their movies will want to add this to their collection.

Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget will be streaming on Netflix on Friday, December 15th.

Chicken Run Dawn of the Nugget Review

From the multi Academy and BAFTA award-winning Aardman (Creature Comforts, Wallace & Gromit, and Shaun the Sheep), and Academy Award and BAFTA-nominated director Sam Fell (ParaNorman and Flushed Away, respectively), comes Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget, the eagerly anticipated sequel to the beloved and highest-grossing stop-motion animated film of all time, Chicken Run. Having pulled off a death-defying escape from Tweedy’s farm, Ginger has finally found her dream — a peaceful island sanctuary for the whole flock, far from the dangers of the human world. When she and Rocky hatch a little girl called Molly, Ginger’s happy ending seems complete. But back on the mainland the whole of chicken-kind faces a new and terrible threat. For Ginger and her team, even if it means putting their own hard-won freedom at risk — this time, they’re breaking in!
