In our house we’re big cheese fans – it may be a Midwest thing, but it’s often a part of every meal. From a slice on our sandwiches to goat cheese crumbles on our salads. But we often find ourselves in the trap of having the same cheese, and we love to try new things. Fromagerie Guilloteau sent me some of their cheese to try, and see if it fit in or meal plans.
In case you couldn’t tell by the name Fromagerie Guilloteau is a French Cheese producer and they make Fromager d’Affinois, a soft and spreadable double cream cheese. Their double cream cheese is still in the wax, but the wedge will have rigid plastic covering the sides before being wrapped. Because of the soft nature of the cheese, it’s not exactly one you can slice on your plate. Instead, you will most likely scoop it from the side.
Fromagerie d’Affinois also offers Florette, a wedge of soft ripened goat cheese. Unlike the Double Creme, Florette has a bit of a harder consistency, and crumbles a bit more. It’s not as easy to spread but still provides the tang you’d expect with goat cheese.
The Double Creme cheese by Fromagerie d’Affinois has a very mild taste, and is similar to brie. Due to it’s soft nature, it’s great for spreading on crackers, or could be great in a dip. Florette does have a hint of the traditional goad cheese taste, but is a more mild than we are use to. But the flavor would be great on salads, on crackers or baked in dishes.
You can find Fromagerie d’Affinois at select cheese counters near you. Bring a taste of France home with you, and turn on your taste to beyond just cheddar.
