FridgeX Collapsed
We all have the storage full of plastic ware, you know the one that spills out all over the floor. It doesn’t matter how many times we clean it, or organize it – it will quickly become a mess again. There are better solutions to the hard plastic options – and thankfully Xtrema sent me their 18 piece FridgeX Silicone Storage set to review. While it has storage in the name, it is much more than just another storage set!

FridgeX with Sorbet

Besides being collapsible, the FridgeX system is made of food safe silicone that is dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven safe, shock proof and completely versatile.

Yes, you did read that right! It’s Oven safe! Silicone is a FDA approved material made of sand and stones that can withstand hot and cold temperatures, and not leach any chemicals into the food inside of it, or change the taste of the food products. FridgeX can be used in the oven up to 430 degrees Fahrenheit. Yes, you can bake a loaf of bread in it if you want!

Since the FridgeX system is made from silicone, you can also put it directly from the oven into the freezer without any worry that it will break or get ruined. Most items baked in the FridgeX containers will come out with a smooth or shiny appearance on the sides just like silicone molds create. If you choose to bake in the set be sure to place it on a cookie sheet!

FridgeX with Ice Cream

Unfortunately, I’m not lucky enough to have a dishwasher so I’ve had to wash my FridgeX set by hand. I’ve been using it from everything from hot homemade caramel (long gone by now), homemade sorbets and ice cream and even left overs. Silicone is very easy to wash and keep clean, the smells and flavors do not cling onto the storage containers from one meal to the next. I’m not sure how they wash in the dishwasher, but by hand it is easy to get into the crevice the lid fits securely in.

As you can see my favorite thing to use the larger 40 oz and the 64 oz containers for is homemade ice cream. It fits easily in and holds a similar shape as the commercial containers of ice cream, and makes it easy to get out scoops for an evening treat.

FridgeX Expanded

There are a couple things I want to note about the FridgeX system: As you start to empty a filled container you can collapse the container so it takes up less space. Be careful doing this however if your lid is already on – your container can create a lot of suction and it can get hard to get the lid off later.  Also, silicone may be very sturdy but it is not knife safe! Unfortunately I learned that the hard way and used something a bit too sharp while taking food out. Sharp objects will puncture the side and it cannot be repaired. I was so disappointed I ordered a replacement piece the next day!

The FridgeX 18 piece silicone set does so much more than store and has become my go to set in the kitchen. I love that I can easily bake in it and then put it away in the fridge or freezer. They take up a lot less space than my hard plastic storage containers and do so much more.

  1. I would love this for my hubby’s lunch and for my every day meal this will work great for my family thanks for the chance 🙂

  2. I’d make everything.. lol.. The small ones would be great for my husband to take to work and microwave.. I might try to make ice cream in one.. These would be so handy to have! Our other containers take up soo much space when they aren’t being used.

  3. Wow Becky–those are nice– I could see packing them all up for a picnic lunch with the kids a Mike..Chicken, veggie sticks, dip, salade, chips, jello –and a good bunch of cookies..They are great

  4. I’d use these daily…for everything! One thing I like to do is make fruit spreads–kind of like preserves only not actually preserved, just refrigerated–and this looks like a great way to keep that. I love that these collapse and store easily.

  5. Totally love that you can use it in Oven, microwave and freeze! Plus being able to collapse and save space in storage – I am all about that!!!

  6. I like to make up lunches in advance. Chef salads and some type of crackers. Or …. some type of sandwich spread with bread or crackers and a fruit salad. Or…… leftovers from the night before and some cookies. So many ideas.

  7. It is berry season so I would make cobbler and see how it does in the oven and then to the fridge for the leftovers.

  8. I would definitely use these daily, for all kinds of things. But trying to eat healthy, I would love them most for toting around fresh veggies and fruit, and nuts! Thank you for this opportunity.

  9. This system would work perfectly for my eating program in which I set up meal portions to have available for all meals. An easy way to organize my frig, preserve fresh foods, & cut back on leftovers that end up being discarded. I really need this set!

  10. What a great idea………I’d use them to replace a lot of disposables that I now use…..everything from leftovers to salads…and then some!

  11. In the past 25 years I have become famous for my chicken crepes. Friends and family are constantly clamouring for me to make them. I always have to combine what goes in the crepe in one bowl/container, once the crepes are stuffed and put together, I would have to transfer them to another container to heat them, another to serve, and then another for any leftovers. With FridgeX, I could do it all. One for mixing, a second for everything else!

  12. The need for a more frugal way of living due to decreasing income coupled with a desire to put our only child through college debt-free, as well as a commitment to eating better means we’d use these for everything from portion control to storing the inevitable leftovers with just the two of us puttering around. No more waste and a little less waist 😉

  13. These would come so in handy for my homemade ranch dressing, egg salad, barbeque sauce, applesauce oh soo much.. Love it!
