When traveling, one of the hardest parts is being away from home. Yes, it’s great having someone clean your room and take care of the dishes for you instead of having to cook. But there are things you miss, like home cooked meals, your own bed and even a bathroom that you can retreat to when you need some quiet time. While Bed and Breakfasts aren’t 100% the same thing as being home, they are as close as you get while you’re on the own. The personal touch given by the owners, the quiet spaces and the little details can add to your trip or be perfect for a romantic getaway.
While we were on the road last month we were given the opportunity to stay at the Wishmaker House Bed and Breakfast in Bellville, Ohio. A small town, a bit off of the turnpike but close enough to the activities. The Wishmaker House offers guests eight different rooms, common spaces, a restaurant and even a winery in an old Victorian house that previously housed a high end furniture company.
We stayed the night in room number 7, a private suite on the back of the house with a bathroom that is bigger than our bedroom is at home. Inside the room we were greeted with updated decor, plenty of storage space and ample outlets to charge all of the tech before we hit the road again. I was happy to find baskets and hangers waiting in the closets if we wanted them, and plenty of storage if we were there for a long time.
The bathroom in our suite was simply out of a dream, with a large walk in shower, a sink area, a vanity area and a claw foot tub that begs you to relax in it. Off the back of the bathroom was a private balcony space we could enjoy to look over the back patio and the neighborhood behind the Bed and Breakfast.
When we first at Wishmaker House we needed dinner, and since the kitchen was currently closed we went for a quick walk downtown Bellville and found options for meals at the local restaurants without even moving our car. Late night munchies? No worries, Wishmaker House offers guests a snack bar that is fully loaded upstairs that you can grab drinks and snacks whenever you want them. And in the morning, food was only downstairs. We were greeted by an assortment of pastries (even gluten free), coffee and hot breakfast casserole served to us in the dining area.
With a focus on personal experience, taking care of items you may have forgotten or those late night snacking needs – Wishmaker House has their guests covered in every aspect. We loved our stay at the Bed and Breakfast and wish we had more time there to explore, and to slip into that tub and relax.
