I love the fact that more restaurants are becoming allergen friendly. And while gluten free is becoming easier to find when we eat out, dining with other food requirements can be difficult. We were invited to a special blogger event at Famous Hamburger in Dearborn late last week. While normally our Bloggers Do events aren’t so late at night, Famous Hamburger was open late for Ramadan and the local community.
Famous Hamburger has three locations around Metro-Detroit with others scheduled to open in the coming years. The currently locations are in Canton and two in Dearborn. Based off of the family model, the Hider family started with their own “Little White Castle” in Lebanon in 1970, the current locations offer a wide range of unique burger options as well as some options for everyone in the family.
Before our event at Famous Hamburger I had only heard of the restaurant chain from a friend. But I had heard of their delicious shakes and appetizers. Our group was invited to try whatever we wanted on the menu including appetizers, shakes and a burger of our choice. We sampled everything from Nachos, Mac ‘n’ Chzzz Bites, Shakes, and sandwiches. Even being gluten free, I was able to order a burger on a bun (the first gluten free bun I’ve seen with sesame seeds) and get a salad for a side. The shakes were delicious, and to make sure it was gluten free I just had to make sure I didn’t get one with cookies and didn’t add malt to my drink.
Ordering was easy, all of our group’s order was taken table side on a tablet including notes about allergies and sent immediately back to the kitchen. It was easy, seamless and I don’t think a single order came out wrong. While Famous Hamburger doesn’t advertise it on their menu, they offer gluten free options that are made with care, vegan options and all of their meats are Halal. Your meal will be made to order and come out as you expect.
We didn’t order dessert, but did see a giant brownie go by that looked drool worthy. All of our meals were prepared with care, and no one with food sensitivities had any issue. With free parking in the ramp behind the restaurant, the location on Michigan Avenue is one we will definitely return to later. And don’t worry, if burgers aren’t your thing you can enjoy a chicken sandwich, a veggie burger, salads, wraps or even quesadillas. There’s something on the menu for everyone on the Famous Hamburger Menu even if you have food allergies or special requirements.
