For us, date night is a rare thing. It’s either we’re too tired after work, things are too expensive or the cost of parking alone runs it out of consideration. But this summer, Chevy and the GMRENCEN have brought back the Rockin’ on the Riverfront concert series as a fun, and affordable date night option.
We were invited to head downtown to experience the Chevy Rockin’ On the Riverfront at the GMRENCEN and to enjoy the Ginblossoms concert. Unfortunately, the night of the concert the wind was dangerously high and the show was cancelled. This was only the second time in the past twelve years a show has been cancelled – we definitely have some luck! However, we were already at the GMRENCEN we figured we’d make the most of it!
Inside the GMRENCEN is a variety of different restaurants, and for all budgets as well. We were treated to dinner at Granite City Brewery, a restaurant we love not only for the variety of food options but also their gluten free menu. Unlike the other locations we’ve been to into the past, the Granite City inside the GMRENCEN offers diners views of the riverfront while still having a clean and modern restaurant design mixed with a bar and on site brewery.
Dining at Granite City is always a pleasure, but for me it’s extra treat – there is very little on the menu that I cannot get gluten free. We started our dinner with gluten free flat bread, followed by gluten free burgers (yes even on buns) and ended with some delicious desserts.
The Granite City inside the GMRENCEN gets busy for dinner service, so we’d encourage making dinner reservations. But coupled with a great show – it’s the perfect affordable way for a date night. All of the concerts for the Chevy Rockin’ On the Riverfront are free with a $5 parking in a dedicated lot – there isn’t a better way to experience the Detroit Riverfront on a budget. Get out, experience Detroit and a fun night out for the whole family.

About the Chevy Rockin’ On the Riverfront at the GMRenCen:
The concert series is set to amaze audiences of all ages with shows running from 7:30-10 p.m. on Friday nights. Rockin’ on the Riverfront takes place on the GM Plaza, directly behind the GMRENCEN – located along Detroit’s beautiful RiverWalk. Convenient parking is available for $5 per vehicle (after 5:00 p.m.) in the GM surface lot at the intersection of St. Antoine and Atwater, adjacent to the GMRENCEN. Only credit cards will be accepted.
The Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center is the official hotel of the 2017 Chevrolet Rockin’ on the Riverfront Concert Series. Enjoy the encore and don’t worry about the drive home by booking a night’s stay.
