Do you remember where you where when the terrorist attacks of 9/11 happened? It’s hard for most of us to look back on that day and still not get emotional. It’s been almost 16 years since the largest terrorist attacks on our soil, and it’s a day that we will never forget. No matter who you are or where you were, that moment and the aftermath is indelibly etched in everyone’s mind.

The film 9/11 is based on a true story and chronicles the lives of five average, everyday people who find themselves trapped in an elevator during the events of 9/11 in the World Trade Center. We’ve partnered with the 9/11 Movie for a giveaway including an autographed movie poster. We’re just asking that you share your 9/11 story with us.

So where were you on 9/11/2001? Me? I was sitting in my studio apartment and had just emailed my professors I was sick after getting home from the doctors office. I distinctly remember sitting in my living room and watching the news unfold on screen – watching well before they knew what was happening and before the second delay was applied to the live newscast. I remember watching people make the heart breaking choice to jump from the towers rather than die in a fire, and watch as they fall, hitting the building on their way down almost like rag dolls. I remember watching the towers crumble and New York being devastated. I remember watching the bridges being flooded with people walking out of the city and them turning around when they heard people were still trapped inside and going back to help. I remember that it wasn’t over and watching it all unfold. The days that followed were dark, unimaginable and something we never expected to see. I still get goosebumps thinking about it and tears build up in the back of my eyes. It’s one of those moments that will always stick with me and others who watched everything unfold.

While it may may be hard to relive, there is a new movie based on true stories from people that were in the towers when the terrorist attacks happened. Check out more about the movie and how you can win a prize package including a signed movie poster autographed by Charlie Sheen.

About the 9/11 Movie:

9/11 opens in theaters on September 8 and features an all star cast including Luis Guzman(The Taking of Pelham 1,2,3), Gina Gershon (Showgirls), Wood Harris (Justified), Jacqueline Bisset (Dancing on the Edge (BBC), Welcome to New York), Olga Fonda (The Vampire Diaries) and Bruce Davison (X-Men).

In the World Trade Center, a billionaire sits in his attorney’s office awaiting a divorce hearing against his wife. In a west side apartment, a bike messenger kisses his 5-year old daughter and sings her “Happy Birthday” before leaving for work. A maintenance man gets dispatched to help a tenant with his lock. In an upper east side apartment, a young model musters the courage to break up with her sugar daddy. As random as random can be, these individuals step into a crowded World Trade Center elevator.

Wrapped up in their own world, they all ride silently hearing only the sound of the elevator giving notice of each floor. When the elevator stops on the 34th floor, it empties leaving only these five behind. Moments later … their world changes as the collision of a jet into the North Tower incapacitates the elevator.

With no understanding of what has happened and is happening around them, these fives are forced to band together and fight against all odds to escape from the impending horrific collapse. During these critical minutes, a story of courage, faith, and the will to live unfolds.

  1. I was in my 8th grade English class. My math teacher came in and told my teacher what was going on. She immediately turned on the news and we sat there watching as the 2nd tower was hit. I was only 13 years old and was scared to see something like that happen on American soil. My English teacher was frantically trying to call her family in Queens, with no success. We ended up getting out of school early. I remember walking home, crying my eyes out the entire time. When I got home I spent the whole day in front of the tv watching what was happening. Nothing and no one could comfort me knowing so many were losing their lives at the hands of extremist. I talk with my 10 year old about what happened and how I felt. Thankfully he hasn’t had to experience that feeling.

  2. I was at work that morning doing inventory and got tired of silence and turned on the surround sound system to Bob and Tom Show. The seriousness of their tone made me and my co worker look at each other and start turning on all the tvs. We took off running to the warehouse where other workers were unloading the semi and told them what was going on. The driver who rarely got out of the cab was out and came with us to stand and stare at a wall of tvs watching when the second plane hit the tower. I don’t think I can explain the feeling that came over me.
