The beauty of this blackened broccoli and garlic recipe is you can use fresh broccoli, but it also works great with frozen florets. Grab what you have in the fridge or freezer, toss together and and in no time you’ll have a side that pairs great with any protein.
Ingredients:
- 2 heads fresh Broccoli, washed and florets removed (stalks and stems reserved for another use) or 2 12 oz. bags of Frozen Broccoli Florets
- 2 Tbsp water
- 3 cloves Garlic, peeled and finely minced
- 2 Tbsp Olive Oil, divided
- 1 tsp Crushed Red Pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 Tbsp unsalted Butter, divided
- 2 Tbsp Sesame Oil
- salt and pepper, to taste
Directions:
- Place your broccoli in a microwave safe bowl with the water. Cook on high until crisp and tender (about 2-3 minutes depending on your microwave). Florets should be firm and not soggy.
- Add one half of your garlic to a cold skillet with your olive oil. Cook over medium heat and add 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes and one tablespoon of butter. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Increase your heat to medium high and add 1/2 of your broccoli to the pan. Stir constantly while searing.
- Once blackened, removed and place in a large bowl and cover to keep warm. Repeat with the rest of your broccoli and blacken. Toss all of your broccoli with sesame oil and coat completely. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
