applesWhen you’re on a budget buying healthier food is harder to do. Let’s be honest, the pre-made and not as healthy alternatives are cheaper and waiting for you! But that’s why Double Up Food Bucks was created, to help Michigan families eat healthier and to stretch their SNAP food benefits even further.

Double Up Food Bucks is a program that launches this year at local Farmer’s markets on June 1st, and in Grocery stores on August 1st. It allows the SNAP benefit user to trade in $20 in benefits per visit in exchange for $40 to be used on purchasing locally grown fruits and vegetables.

How can you find out if your favorite market is participating? Check the Double Up Food Bucks location search on their website, or look for the specially made signs at your favorite Farmers market! You can expect to see the program at Detroit’s Eastern Market, Lansing City Market and many others!

For more information on Double Up Food Bucks check out their official website.
