Next week Dinotrux makes it’s way onto Netflix, and you know your little ones are going to absolutely love it! Both the Dinotrux and the Reptools need ore to survive, rocks deep down in the earth, and it’s what keeps them fueled. Since the show is going to be huge in our house, I’ve started preparing for when it goes live so Goonie can enjoy is own ore while watching the show. The recipe is actually a homemade version of Pop Rocks, and it’s sweet, sour and a little fizzy. If you’re going to have a party to watch Dinotrux – why not prepare some fizzing ore for everyone to enjoy? They’ll get a shock when the rocks start fizzing in their mouth!
- 2 cups Sugar
- 1/2 cup Light Corn Syrup
- 1/4 cup Water
- 1 tsp flavor of your choice – 1 dram! Check the baking section at your store!
- 3-4 drops liquid food coloring
- 1/4 cup Citric Acid + 1 tsp set aside
- 1 tsp Baking Soda
- Corn Starch
Directions:
Lightly dust a cookie sheet with walls with corn starch.
- In a medium sauce pan combine your sugar, corn syrup and water. Stir together and continue to stir over medium heat until your sugar is dissolved.
- Once the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture begins to boil, stop stirring and add in a candy thermometer. Cook until it reaches 300 degrees. Remove from heat.
- Add in 1/4 cup Citric Acid, 1 tsp Baking Soda, flavoring and a few drops of food coloring of your choice. Stir and mix well, the candy will hiss as you do this.
- Pour into your prepared cookie sheet, and lift the pan and gently tilt to spread the candy around. The pan will get hot from the candy, but you should have enough time to do this safely. Sprinkle the extra 1 tsp of Citric Acid on top.
- Allow to cool completely for 30 minutes.
Using a butter knife break the candy into large pieces. Place in a large zip top back and use a rolling pin to break into smaller rock pieces.
- Store in an airtight container!
Don’t forget the first 10 episodes of Dinotrux is on Netflix on August 14th! Enjoy it with your little dino fans!
