Having the right tools in the kitchen is always helpful. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen – sometimes cooking, and others preparing food.
For the past few years I have been using a cheap plastic scale I purchased. It has served its purpose – that’s about all I can say good about it. It has a toggle in the back that can easily get hit and your weight could be off. While I’ve only used it for food, not mailing, I can see the problem that this might cause.
There is always a more expensive option – a digital scale that gives a more accurate read out on demand. It takes the guess work out of weighing items. Ozeri sent me their digital kitchen scale to try and review.
Like I mentioned before, part of the time I spend in the kitchen is preparing food. We are a frugal household, so we purchase a lot of things in bulk. Included in this is meat. We purchase several pounds at a time at a time and separate them into smaller more workable sizes. Standard recipes only require 1-2 lbs of meat, so that is my goal when separating meat. It’s okay if the packets are just over a pound or more, but I like to stretch the meat as far as possible. The scale made it quick and easy to see just how close to my goal weights I was when I was making my meat packets to freeze.
When the scale first got here I was surprised at how small and light the unit is. I think it’s even lighter than the cheap (non-digital) version I already had. I expected the scale to require power, but it runs on just 2 AAA batteries. It was extremely easy to put together and use once I had the batteries in. One button is a quick on and off and the other allows you to switch the weight to pounds (lbs), kilograms, grams, and ounces. It even has a 3 minute power save mode so you wont run your batteries down while you’re working.
After making the meat packets – I was surprised at how easy it was to wash the scale. I simply washed any part that may have touched meat and let it dry. In a couple minutes it was ready for its next task.
The digital scale be used to portion food, measure items for recipes (ever have one that asked for exact ounces of an ingredient) or even used to give you mailing rates. Ozeri even includes a mailing rate chart so you would know just how much it would cost to send your letter or package. The scale even can weigh things up to 12 lbs!

I am trying to watch my portion sizes. I am overweight and trying to lose some weight.
I’d use this to divide bulk items into freezable/usable portions,
We had a kitchen scaled we used to measure portion sizes, but it met a bad end. Would really love to win this one.
i would to use this to measure out recipes that calls for 2 oz of this or 2. and 1/4 of that. etc
I would use it for various things- making my own homemade enzyme cleaner, gluten free baking etc… 🙂
I’d use this for mailing. I sell on Ebay and would love to get the weight for the correct rate.
I need one of these to divide bulk items before I freeze them!
I’d use it to measure out meats like you did, as well as weigh out ingredients when I’m baking!
I’m terrible, horrible, no good, very bad at making exact measurements especially when it comes to weight. So this could probably solve a lot of problems. 😉
I would use the scale to aid my dieting. It’s amazing how portion sizes look smaller than they actually are.
LOVE THIS SCALE
I WOULD USE IT FOR COOKING AND BAKING
I would use this scale to measure out meats, and for baking..
Gosh this is nice -we have a kitchen but it is nothing as nice as this one–I like the idea of using it for postal– we’ve never tried that –I dont think it even does that
I would use it to weigh dry ingredients when baking as opposed to using measuring cups. I also like to weigh noodles, different shapes can really appear to be equal but will be quite far off.
I would love to win the scale since i buy everything in bulk.It would help divide meats and lunch meats along with canning fruits and veggies 🙂
I am trying to lose weight and I know this would be extremely helpful.
I buy ground beef in bulk, so this would be great for portioning it out! 🙂
I would use it for my baking
this will be so useful
Baking for the holidays 🙂
