slyvania headlight restoration kitI’m a firm believer in doing things yourself if you can. I know how to change the filters, bulbs, wipers and fuses in my car. If I can do it myself, I refuse to pay someone else to do it. My car isn’t that old but it is starting to show some wear and tear – including the headlights. I’m sure you’ve seen the commercials with the easy spay that will fix the foggy headlights. It’s been tempting but I wasn’t sure it would actually work.

There are other products out there that will do help clear up foggy headlights, including the Headlight Restoration Kit from SYLVANIA. It promises restored headlights in 30 minutes without the use of tools. That’s the kind of project I can get behind!

SYLVANIA sent me the Headlight Restoration Kit to review, and it has just about everything you need to start the project. It comes with a cleaner, clothes to use, tape, sand paper, a chemical compound to work on the lamps, and a clear coat to finish the project. The only thing you have to provide yourself is some clean water and paper towel.

The packaging has minimal instructions on the outside, but full instructions are contained inside. I would highly suggest reading them before you get started! The chemicals and sprays are labeled in the order of use, but the clothes and other products aren’t. Another thing I would suggest would be sure to use the tape as recommended! Remember you are using chemicals and sandpaper – you want to protect your paint!

As I mentioned before my car is 8 years old. It has minimal damage and a lot of miles. However the headlights have been plagued with the cloudiness of age. It is the plastic casing reacting to the UV damage from the sun as well as the years of drive time. Don’t get me wrong, they have worked fine over the years – they just don’t look the best.

I’ve been toying with using the kit over the past few days, but it has either been too cold or raining. Today I went out and put the kit to good use, even though it was only 39 degrees out. I followed the directions meticulously, and honestly I wish I had chosen a day a bit warmer since there was water involved. But I pushed through and in just about a half hour I was done.

I am absolutely amazed at the results of the SYLVANIA headlight restoration Kit. While it took some elbow-grease and a bit of work the headlights look almost new again! The difference is very noticeable and I’m sure once the clear coat fully cures (by morning) it will look even better.

The kit was extremely easy to use, it just requires some time and patience. Another suggestion I would have for users would be to make sure you use the kit in a well ventilated area. The kit uses more than one chemical, and the clear coat specifically has a very strong smell.
