Last month I told you a bit about the California Wine Club, and some of their services. Recently the second shipment of my two month trial showed up, this time from Daniel Gehrs winery out of Los Olivos, California (Central Coast).
Each month the California Wine Club selects new wineries to send their members some of the great wine they find. They tour small wineries to find new tastes, tones and flavors.
This month’s selection were both multi-award winning wines from the Daniel Gehrs winery. My package contained one white and one red just like last month.
Daniel Gehrs 2011 Chenin Blanc
We enjoyed this wonderful white wine with our Thanksgiving dinner. It was just a little sweet and not overly dry. It complimented our dinner well!
Chenin Blanc wines normally are a full bodied white wine with fruity overtones. It can be paired with your meals, desserts or just enjoyed for the fun of it.
I loved the flavor of the Chenin Blanc and the balance of the fruity tones and flavors.
Daniel Gehrs 2009 Merlot
I enjoyed the Merlot one evening as we sat and watched movies. This one was a bit too dry for me. I am a fan of Merlot wines, but it’s didn’t have the sweetness I was use to. I think their Merlot has a higher tannic level than I like.
Merlot is made from quick maturing purple grapes and can have a soft fruity flavor to a richer deep flavor.
One thing I’ve really enjoyed about working with the California Wine Club is the selection of products they have. It gives you a great chance to sample different types of wine and find your taste preference!
One lucky reader will win a $50 gift card to the California Wine club! You can sent someone (or yourself) a great gift with that! You must order by December 12th to receive it in time for Christmas! (The giveaway will end on the 10th!)
