Last year, we made the big step in our house to switch to stainless steel cookware. Not only does it look a lot better than our old non-stick pans, but it is considered a healthier cooking option. But cooking with stainless steel cookware can cause other problems, and shortly after the change, I almost had some buyers remorse. You see, without the non-stick coating I found some of my food would burn and stick. I had to learn to cook with stainless, which took a couple months before I started to not only love the look of the pans, but cooking with them.
What if you could have the non-stick properties we’re use to cooking with, that are PFOA-free and metal-utensil safe nonstick? Circulon has recently released their new Momentum stainless steel line, that has the multi-level Circulon base that allows easy release of your food. The pans have a thick aluminum base that’s fully encapsulated in magnetic stainless steel allows cooks to use the cookware on all cooktops, including induction. Circulon sent us the 5 Quart Covered Dutch Oven to test out and review.
While making meals in the Momenum Dutch Oven, I was actually happy to see how easy food released from the base. I decided to make a One Pot Italian Beef Pasta recipe, that had a long cooking time. While the meal was cooking, I actually left and took a shower and did some laundry. I didn’t worry about stirring the dish often, and let everything cook together. The few times I did check, everything was still easy to stir and nothing had stuck to the bottom of the pan. The large size allowed me to make a dish to feed the household, and allow left overs for later in the week. With the covered handles, my fear was the pan wouldn’t be oven safe – but the 5 Quart Dutch Oven is actually oven safe up to 400 degrees! And while that is a great selling point for me, the fact that the pan is completely dishwasher safe is my favorite feature. Not only have we created some delicious meals in the Momentum Stainless Steel Dutch Oven, but clean up was quicker than using the old fashion stainless steel pans we have.
